Question about Vermont's gun climate

I'm looking to get out of Connecticut and Vermont and New Hampshire both look like state where a guy and his family can go and be left alone and live as "free" as anybody can these days.

My impression of Vermont is more than your share of hippies and lefty types come from there yet you have virtually no firearm regulations at all.

Is my impression wrong? Are there signs that just over the horizon VT will succumb to the stupidity around it in NY, CT and MA and eventually tear apart the 2nd Amendment?

I would hate to flee to freedom only to have the same "assault weapons" and "registration/licensing" bull follow me wherever I go.

I think we will keep things the way they are for a while. I've been here 10 years and nothing has changed. I have a Non-Res carry for NH, was very easy to obtain. Took 9 days round trip.
I do worry about the population centers, Rutland, Burlington, a lot of liberals. Hopefully never enough to overwhelm the rest of us.

I understand that concealed carry is legal in Vermont because there is no law against it. I suppose that as long as some madman doesn't go into some gun-free zone killing a bunch of people, it will remain that way. Vermont has a low rate of crime and very few homicides; IMO it is not due to the lack of gun regulations, but because of the small population. It has the second smallest population of any state behind Wyoming, which, incidentally, is also relatively safe.

Being born in Vermont i can tell you it's full of people who are stuck in the 60's. a lot of hippies in Vermont the other half if Honk if you love god type. Vermont is a lot of small towns and framing not a whole hell of a lot to do in Vermont. Jobs are ok if you are looking to work for the state,Be a framer, or work in a jail. there is some factory jobs but not a lot. If you like small towns with not a whole lot to do then Vermont is for you. Me i got the hell out as soon as i could. New Hampshire is way better a lot more to do and not so many hippies. On a side note If the shoot rampage happens again in Vermont i am sure the gun laws will change and not for the better. Here is the news reports in case you have no idea what i am talking about Happened back in 2006.

CBS/AP) A gunman shot five people Thursday, killing two of them, in a rampage through two houses and an elementary school that ended when he wounded himself, police said.

One of the slayings occurred at the school, which was not in session. Police Chief David Demag said he could not confirm earlier reports that the victim was a teacher preparing for the start of classes next week.

One television report said about 30 staff were in Essex Elementary School. At one point, people could be seen running from the school, ducking their heads.

"At this point the scenes are secured and the community is safe," Demag said about two hours after the first reports of a shooting. "We have a suspect in custody. The suspect has identified himself as the only shooter. He is secure."

Demag said the shooter and the other three wounded people were taken to a hospital, but their conditions were not immediately known. The chief said he could not provide the shooter's identity, or a motive.

CBS affiliate WCAX-TV in South Burlington reports that the shooting started as part of a domestic dispute.

Demag said one person was killed in the first shooting, which occurred at a home. The shooter then went to the school, where he fatally shot one person and wounded two others, Demag said.

The shooter then went to a second home where he wounded a person before turning the gun on himself, the chief said.

Dozens of police officers, including some tactical units armed with automatic weapons, converged on the school in northern Vermont, near Burlington.

David Pariseau of South Burlington said his wife, Ellen, a first-grade teacher at the school, told him she and six or seven other teachers had locked themselves in a classroom. They and others at the school eventually were taken to a supermarket about a half-mile away where authorities were not allowing them to talk with reporters.

WCAX initially said police were looking for two cars and for a suspect described as a black man in his early 30s, about 6-foot-3, with shoulder-length cornrows. He was reported to be armed with a large-caliber handgun and police were calling him "armed and dangerous."

There were conflicting reports from the scene.

An Associated Press photographer on the scene said a short time later that a man had been captured after a foot chase. But a short time later, people could be seen running from the building with their heads ducked down.

He was just convicted this month. Now he is looking at life in prison at the most.

Well, I've been here quite a while. My father is an FFL, I'm on the license as well, and I also used to be an FFL.

I doubt we'll ever get any serious gun laws here, no matter how hard the Socialists in Burlington (Mayor Kiss and crew) try. I even think the mayor may be out next election.

See, we do have our share of Liberals and then some, but, many of them are armed themselves, some with handguns, most with rifles or shotguns. The attitude here is to be left alone, and we like it.
