Question about my 870 super mag

This may be a stupid question but I was wanting to get a slug berral for my 870 super mag 3 1/2" and was wondering if I had to get one made for the super mag or if a regular express barrel would work?

I would think any local gun store would be able to answer that. I would think it would have its own barrel don't think a 3 inch barrel could chamber a 3.5 but not sure. Sorry

If I remember correctly, a 3 inch action will use a 2 3/4" only barrel (seen that one done a time or two and did it myself with a 3" action 1100) but the 3 1/2" action won't take a 3" barrel.

Going to a 3" barrel will limit you to 3" shells. You won't be able to 3 1/2's in that barrel. Even if they chamber, they lengthen by about 1/4" when the crimp opens on firing. You run the risk of some seriously high pressures that will eventually lead to a burst barrel (while you are holding it, no less).

You have to buy a 3-1/2" barrel. The regular barrels (2-3/4" -3") do not work. I bought a 3-1/2" super mag about 5 years ago and asked the guy at Bass Pro if a regular slug barrel with a cantilever mount would work before I bought it and he told me it would. So I bought the gun and the barrel. I put the barrel on the gun and it mounted fine. I shot one slug and the barrel slipped into the action about 1/2" because the mechanical stop on the 2-3/4 - 3" barrel does not seat up against the 3-1/2" action. I am just glad it didn't blow up on me.
