Putnam county question

hello all, i hope im in the right place! i was going to apply for brinks & titan armored car driver/courier but in order to even apply i was told i needed a pistol permit. So i went to the Putnam sheriffs office website and downloaded the application form. The problem is there are 3 options, 1)hunting and sport 2) business 3)unrestricted listed as purpose of the license. They all require proof, but how can i show proof if can not even apply for the job? and i do not have a NYS hunting license. Anyone out there have a similar experience as me? i'm kinda lost on what to do.

Call your county permit clerk, and tell them what your situation is. Since you are making the initial application, it doesn't seem likely that you will get an unrestricted permit, but maybe it could be for work, hunting and shooting. That's what they did for me when I worked armored cars thirty years ago. When the judge that issued my license passed on, the new judge issued me an unrestricted license. Some counties issue unrestricted licenses, some don't. I don't know what the status is with Putnam county.

Putman is a good county. You will more than likly get the unrestricted. Now, once you have your state permit you will then need to get your Guard Card to let you work security. 8 hours and then another 16 of OJT. Once you have that, you need to take the Armed Guard course. 47 hours. This will alow you to carry a firearm doing security work.

Providing proof can be as simple as writing a letter explaining that you feel the need to carry a firearm for selfdefence. You do NOT need an unrestricted permit to take teh Armed Guard course.
