PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHT

If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar rapist won't stick around... After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there also. This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime. Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone. This is a really good idea. You could leave the spare key fob or remote button next to your bed permanently. Definitely, this is something to pass on to your family and friends as a security tip. Please pass and share this even if you've read it before. It's a reminder.

If I hear a car alarm in the parking lot, I assume someone's looking for their car. It's possible it'll work at home... your neighbors might get annoyed eventually and pound on your door. I definitely wouldn't rely on it in case of a heart attack. You'd probably be dead before anyone realized something is actually wrong.

Sadly, everyone's conditioned themselves to ignore car alarms, so they're not nearly as effective as they should be.

What if you don't have any neighbors close enough to hear your car horn?

Have a good house alarm that wakes you up and get ready to defend yourself, I guess! I'm in the same situation :)

I actually leave my car keys on my dining room table, right out in the middle of everything. Not only can I find them, but maybe an intruder will grab my keys and take my car, and leave me and my family alone.

I actually leave mine IN the vehicle, for the same reason. And I'll know if anybody comes on my property.

My sister's boyfriend who lives in a campus apartment complex (he's working on his PhD and teaching) actually leaves his car completely unlocked all the time so thieves can go through it without smashing windows!

I don't know how effective it would be scaring off bad guys, but I have used that tactic to get the bears to leave the yard when they hit the trash can (typically 2 - 3 times a year).

I don't think it's so much to do this to have your neighbors come to your aid, I think it's about the robber hearing the car and getting scarred off by the noise. I live in the boonies and my nearest neighbor is so far away, they wouldn't ever hear the car horn. I would put my safety on having a little yappy dog in the house, hell they yap whenever the one of the house owners enter a room. We have a person in the county that has flock of white geese that have the run of his property and I asked him once about it helping him detect if there's anyone who shouldn't be on the property and he told me it hasn't failed him once, in fact he said that there have been 5 incidences in the past and it's robbers 0 geese 5 so far.
