Problem after reassembling my sig p938.

So I disassembled my sig p938 to clean it after shooting. I had 2 problems when putting it back together. Now for one the recoil spring is a pain in the butt to get back in. I know it's a compact gun but my gosh. My worry is I'll bend the spring wrong. My second problem was when I did put it back together the slide would go back all the way and the guide rod would stick out and the slide wouldn't go forward. So I took it apart again and redid it and now it slides back just fine. I just want to know if this is normal or if I'm doing anything wrong.

Agree that the recoil spring is a b-*&H to reinstall, especially if your hands are oily form cleaning the gun, never experienced your second problem though,

Would check YouTube for Sig P938 assembly. If you did something wrong, you can figure it out that way.

This is how you deal with the second problem.

As you put the slide back on, push the extractor down, push the slide only as far back so it would be in battery, then push the pin/slide catch in and keep pressure and/or push the barrel downward, then slide the slide all the way to the rear.

Mine did the same thing and I couldn't figure out what I did different. I will also try the above suggestion next time :)

THANKS! Have both P238 and P938 and have wrestled with them both. Great instructional video. Bookmarked it. Yes, I've fought the same fight. Why can't the manual be more specific....?? Thanks for a boost up the learning curve.

That was exactly the problem! Thank you very much I appreciate it!

Glad it helped. I was getting a little tired of having to watch a 5 minute video to figure out one problem...I will try and make any future videos short and sweet too.

Yea could you show me how you put the guide rod and spring back in also? I would really appreciate it.

Sig P238 Tips: Recoil Assembly

It takes some finger and hand strength, but it's a tool less way. There is another way that Walther recommends, which uses a plastic guide inserted through the front of the slide. Only issue I have with that method, is having an easy to lose plastic rod floating around.

Just received the "Thumb Buddy" I ordered. Intended for 1911 springs but think it'll work on other spring insertion too. Haven't tried it yet.

Hope I can help, your recoil spring and guide rod have nothing to do with the slide not returning to battery or forward position.. When you reassemble the firearm don't put the slide back to the disassembly notch. Put the slide on to the forward position, install the slide stop/disassembly lever part way, then slide it to the notch and finish pushing it in otherwise you are putting the lever in in front of the hole on the barrel which doesn't allow it to cycle all the way forward. As for the recoil sprong.. They suck I haven't figured out a good way to reinstall it yet

I posted a video showing this earlier in the thread. Gotta make sure the slide catch pin goes into the barrel lug, and not in front of the barrel lug.

I had the same problem as you all. The problem was simple, I wasn't seating the guide rod correctly. I always had it canted a little off center. Now I check it before I reinstall the slide. Haven't had a problem since.

Sig P238 Troubleshoot: Side Stuck During Reassembly

Made a quick video to help. Let me know if that was the problem you were experiencing.
Thank you for posting this video. I have cleaned and reassembled my P238 dozens of times without incident--till today. I thought I was losing my mind (after all, it is really not a complicated mechanism. I found this thread by googling and saw your post so I went to youtube. Problem solved. I literally would not have slept tonight! THANKS
