Private property target shooting

I live in CT. I have a friend in NYS that owns over a 100 acers and wants me to come up and do some shooting on his property (pistol).

My question is if I legaly carry from CT with my gun to his property, can I use it on his private property without a NY permit? Or am I loking for trouble?

Short answer: illegal.

There is no way for you to legally transport your pistol into NYS. You do not have a NY pistol permit, so it is illegal for you to possess a handgun at all. It's technically illegal for you to even hold or shoot a friends gun in NYS.

Honest answer: if you have it locked in a trunk and only take it out on private property... Who is going to know? Just know that it's illegal to bring your gun into the state.

Thats TOO bad! What a shame! Would have been fun. Oh well glad I asked.
I do hold a resident CCW permit in my state of CT and a couple of non resident permits in other states as well

I see why so many people are unhappy with the way things run up there.

:eek::frown:

post statutes please. Without statutes, it would be foolish to follow your advice. Pm bc1 for a better understanding of the actual written law, and not some ones opinion. He is a little busy at the moment I presume from recent news, but hopefully he will be back soon.

Hopefully HR822 will take care of that!!!!

Must one post a statute to convince you stop at a red light in NY? Some things just don't need a statute to be posted since it is so well known. Some arcane question, I would agree with you.

These are the only exceptions allowed.Nothing described above is covered so if its not written as an exception its illegal as stated.

Also he is not covered under the federal law to transport his gun there
18 USC § 926A - Interstate transportation of firearms | LII / Legal Information Institute

As he is not legal to carry in NY
