Pray for Our Nation

This is an email from a dear friend that tells us where we are as a nation and what we need to do to recover from all that has befallen us. It is a prayer so, if you are not religious and don't like the mention of God, you can stop right here. For everyone else, enjoy!

"'Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen. (NIV)
Ezekiel 16:48-50
Does not wanting to help the poor and needy remind you of anyone? The Maccabees fought to return Israel to God and four hundred years later when Jesus came they were the Pharisees versus the Sadducees and both against Jesus. Prayer isn't so much talking to God as it is us listening to Him. The harder we try to be righteous in ourselves the farther we move from Him. For the record I'm not religious but I am a Christian and love Christ and what he taught.

Al: The part of the Bible you have referenced has to do with Jerusalem's unfaithfulness to God. I assume you are applying that meaning to our country. This country has been guilty as well. However, I fail to see how you might think that we needn't pray to God and repent from our sins in hopes of saving the country. Further, I can't see how praying and trying to be righteous is moving us further away from God. I am glad you claim to be a Christian and do love Jesus and His teachings. After all, we have no salvation other than Jesus, John 14:6, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh to the Father but by Me."

I would also reference II Chronicles 7:14, "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." That was the reason behind the post, to encourage those who will to pray for our land and seek God's forgiveness. And, for the record, I try to be religious and am also a Christian and not ashamed to admit it. I am not what you would call a "Bible thumper" but love to discuss the Bible anywhere and at anytime. Maybe, just maybe, by having posted this, it will cause others to turn to God. Anyway, its like the little Jewish woman's chicken soup, it can't hurt."

By the way, I used to have a bumper sticker on my truck that read, "Far from God?/Who Moved?" Not me!

I honestly believe that we have passed the tipping point. I believe that we are living in the last days and that no amount of prayer is going to change that. It was never God’s intent that this planet go on for ever He said from the start that a Day of Judgment was coming and I think we are on the eve of it.

Instead of asking God to fix the Titanic we need to be directing people to the lifeboat

Treo: You have a point, directing people to the lifeboat is great but hopefully we will get to fly up rather than go by boat. First class, too!

Actually I was not referring to America in general since as a Country we have attempted to have a safety net and help the poor and needy. The reference is to those who would seek to destroy that net and attempt to legislate morality while establishing an economic system that rewards themselves and punishes manual labor. We all need to pray and seek God's forgiveness but the tendency is to see others sins and not our own. While that verse does refer to the Jews unfaithfulness it gives insight to what God is interested in. He had many laws governing how people should be treated and wasn't interested in the Blood of Bulls and Goats as much in how His people treated others. Too many people look at the sin of Sodom as Homosexuality but the real sin was how they would treat a stranger in their city. The bottom line isn't how religious we are and how well we can follow religious laws but what God requires of us.
He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8

I agree. Jesus, in referencing the End of the Age, said that the re-birth of Israel (1948) would mark the beginning of this Last Generation. Knowing that God has said that a mans years (generation) will be "Three score & ten" (70 years) and we're already 64 years into this Last Generation, it's without question that we're living in the very last days of the "LAST DAYS" of this Last Generation. If you want to know how close we are to begin the 7 years of Tribulation , just keep your eyes on Israel & the Middle East. The stage is set, the prophetic blueprint of the End Time Scenario is perfectly aligned today, and is"impossible to ever align this way again". For those who don't know what begins the Tribulation Period of the Book of Revelation a.k.a. the 70th Week of Daniel, The time of Jacobs Trouble, it will begin with the signing of a treaty between Israel and the Palestinians to divide Jerusalem. This treaty is required by the U.S. and the U.N. by December of 2012. Knowing that God's word is absolute, Mark 13:30 is an absolute. The End of The Book has been written, Treo is correct, no amount of prayer will change any part of it. The only lifeboat of escape is our "Blessed Hope", the Rapture.

I have nothing against praying to God. I just want people to pray to the one true God but most pray to the wrong one.

The lunatic is in my head.
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane.
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me.
