I got pulled in at the weigh station south of Charllotte going north on I-85 and the tractor trailer I drive must have looked ratty enough they decided to pull me off the scale and do a brief DOT check. When I pulled beyond the scale and over to the side the NC state trooper came up to the door and explained what he was going to do. Without interupting him, I Politely said , Sir, I guess by law I must inform you, I have a CCH permit and I am carrying a handgun in my (told him where it was on me)
He replied calmly that thats ok, just leave it where it is and we won't have any problem
He then asked for my license and permit and DOT physical card, went to the cruiser and probably checked them out then returned and pointed out I had forgotten to sign the DOT physical card but he wouldn't write me up, just do it as some cops can be "an ass" about it but he wasn't going to be. Then he calmly did his check gave me a fix it ticket for a couple minor things and sent me on my way. He was completely cordial and polite the whole time, even a friendly. After I told him where the gun was he never mentioned it again even when he had me get out of the truck so he could show me what was going to be on the fix it ticket, knowing I was walking around the truck with him armed. Wish they could all go like that.

thats great i live in nc and carry while im in my truck. always worried about the chicken coops so this is good to hear.

Coming from an all cop family, I find that most cops are like that but you have few that are overzealous with something they think they have to prove. Good to read some positive feedback.

I talked with a DOT officer in Vermont last spring, and asked about carryng in a commercial vehicle. He told me there is no federal law against it, as long as you are legal to carry, you can carry. The sticky part is not knowing where you may be dispatched that won't allow firearms on thier premises. Now I drive a day cab, and haul scrap, so far no problems.
