Police officers exempt from the law...

Wash officer's daughter shot in leg with his gun - Boston.com

I am tired of police officers being exempt from laws. They should fall under the EXACT same laws that apply to non-LEO citizens, especially in regards to firearms possession and carrying. They are no more worthy to provide for the protection of themselves and their families than any other person. Why should they be able to defend themselves in a school building and I can't? Why should they be able to defend themselves in a bar and I can't? Why should they be able to have a loaded gun in a vehicle without any license required and I have to have a CPL? Why should they be able to conceal their guns without a CPL and I can't?

And then... it all comes out in instances like these:

The 10-year-old daughter of a veteran Spokane police officer was in stable condition after shooting herself in the leg on Easter with her father's duty weapon, authorities said.

So what do you think will happen to this officer? I predict ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Why? Well let's look at the track record:

This is the fourth reported child shooting in seven weeks in Washington state and the second involving a law enforcement officer's child.

On March 10, the 7-year-old daughter of a Marysville police officer was killed when her brother found a gun in the family car. A Snohomish County sheriff's probe into that shooting, involving Officer Derek Carlile's daughter Jenna, is "still an open investigation," sheriff's Lt. Brent Speyer said Tuesday.

Under investigation. Tell me another lie.

In the other recent shootings, prosecutors have said the mother of 3-year-old Julio Segura-McIntosh left him unrestrained March 14 in a car in Tacoma after she placed a pistol under the driver's seat. The boy fatally shot himself in the head when the woman went to get food.

The mother, Jahnisha McIntosh, 23, and her boyfriend, Eric Vita, 22, have both pleaded not guilty to second-degree manslaughter charges.

This shooting happened four days AFTER the Marysville police officer's child was killed with his gun. But the non-LEOs have already been charged with manslaughter and have had court appearances! Really? Two EXACT same situations, except one was a LEO, the other not.

And...

On Feb. 22, an 8-year-old girl was critically wounded by a gun that went off in a classmate's backpack in a Bremerton school.

The girl, Amina Kocer-Bowman, was released April 3 from a Seattle hospital. The 9-year-old boy who brought the gun to school has written her an apology letter as part of the sentence he received when he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges stemming from the shooting.

The Kitsap County prosecutor has charged that boy's mother and her boyfriend with felony assault, saying they negligently allowed the boy access to the gun. They have pleaded not guilty.

Again, felony assault charges filed against the non-LEOs.

Everything is backwards to me. Police officer's let off the hook with an "internal investigation" when they contribute to children getting shot and killed with THEIR guns, when they are the one's that are so "highly trainied". They should be held to a HIGHER standard because aren't they "trained" so this stuff doesn't happen.

I am going to say it (albeit with the utmost sarcarsm intended): These police officers give gun owners everywhere a bad image.

So, instead of holding people responsible for the violations of the laws that they have already committed, the anti-gun crowd is going to scream to make more gun laws that affect ME, that LEOs will continue to be exempt from. And the badge polishing boot lickers are going to say, "They have suffered enough, there is no need to punish them more."

The Police are the Government. Depending on local it's simply do as I say not as I do, the Government shows us this every day.

Welcome to Fascism 101!

You and I both thought that we actually had 'freedom' in this country? NOPE!
When we where young and naive we thought such foolish things.

We the people have all allowed our high and mighty 'Gubment' to turn us into a bunch of peasant sheeple.
We have been force fed an 'illusion' of freedom.

Now kindly get back into the flock with all of the other sheeple before the sheepdogs decide to bite you in the a$$.
Don't rock the boat or you may be thrown overboard peasant.

Silly taxpayers, Freedom is only for the Wealthy, the Connected and the Ones In Power.
We must learn to do as they say, not as they do.

Interesting...I wonder how many times Navy personnel have flashed military IDs to get out of speeding tickets or even OUIs. I wonder who's whining about double standards then.

A lot fewer than cops, and I GUARANTEE you an order of magnitude fewer when it comes to DUIs, even when there were fatalities.

Trust me, you don't want to go there, you'll like neither the destination nor the trip.

Not sure if it is true for all of Kentucky, but the police officers in my area are considered on duty even when off duty and are required to carry at all times.

I wouldn't trust you at all. Go ahead and go there. I really could not care less.

I wonder how many times people have flashed their CCW permits to get out of speeding tickets or even DUIs. In Washington my military ID card is required to validate my Wyoming driver's license. I don't feel bad if a cop let's me go with a warning for speeding because that same cop is sure to let other people go with warnings too.

Nothing is as effective for getting out of a citation or an arrest as a LEO badge/ID card is. That is an historically proven fact of life.

Deflection. I'm not surprised.

Makes ya sick to think LEO's can be above the law. I have to wonder what instructions and other bs, if any, come down the line from DHS to local, city, county and state law enforcement. I also have to wonder how many sheriff's dept's are corrupted by the DHS. Has anyone ever taken a look at a booklet from Ret Sheriff Richard Mack? His info is what needs to get to as many LEO's as possible.

One thing Rich S also fails to understand is the military ID card can get you in worse trouble too. Because when the police get finished with you, the military can then have a shot at you. Showing it with the DL is required to show that you are covered by not needing a local license or license plates by state law.

In Washington, local license plates are still required, once your out of state registration expires, but a local driver's license is not.

an investigation by Spokane County sheriff's detectives is under way

"We are gathering all the facts to make a determination if there was anything criminal," he said.

Dont know what you are complaining about. They are investigating it. Innocent until proven guilty. Or do you not believe in investigations and trials? Guilty until proven innocent?

In the case of the shooting in Stanwood just trying to figure out why it takes so much longer to "investigate" the case of the police officer than it does the case in Tacoma when the circumstances were nearly exactly the same.

The thing is, we dont know the circumstances. So lets let them investigate before we come to conclusions.

Yeah, you're right. Kid in Tacoma gets left in a vehicle alone with a loaded gun, obtains the gun, shoots himself. Parents charged with manslaughter. Two kids get left in a vehicle alone with a loaded gun in Stanwood, one obtains the gun, shoots his sister. Definitely different circumstances.

So since he is an officer and is probably gonna get a slap on the wrist for gun negligence then I as a fire fighter should get the same if I ACCIDENTLY burn down my neighbors house right???
