Police Nationwide Say “You’re On Your Own”

MARCH 6, 2013 BY Link Removed Link Removed

James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas visited police stations nationwide and asked law enforcement officials how they could protect themselves in the event of an armed break-in. “Go get some bleach. Go get ammonia,” one officer instructed. Yet another officer instructed the undercover journalist to “lock yourself in a bedroom” and “start yelling and screaming.”

The bleach idea would definitely get you sued. Ammonia? Might as well throw used cat litter. Why not toss an angry cat? Kind of bad advice.

I could give them better advice. Get a gun, go to the range, get on the paper. When attacked, point at attacker and pull trigger repeatedly.

I would tell the cop to 'go & get some bleach'...The cops in this video are 'hypocrites' imho.
As far my wife and son are concerned, they will both be utilizing our Glock 19, Glock 21, Mossberg Shotgun and our rather large German Shepherd guard dog to defend themselves within our home.

We will call 911 after the immediate threat has been STOPPED.

My EDC (even while in the house) is 31 rounds of 1600 fps / 768 lbs Underwood Ammo 10mm. If they get beyond that, I've got plenty of .40 cal and 12 gauge ready to chunk at them....

I have a 12 ga within a few feet of me at all times. I even sleep with it. If you get past that, then I missed. 5 times. (Not gonna happen.)

Agree, you're on your own.
Thankfully here we have the provisions to defend ourselves.
It would be more accurate to say, "In almost every instance, you're on your own until it doesn't matter to you anymore."

  1. Police have no legal duty to protect individuals.
  2. Police have no legal liability when they fail to protect individuals.
  3. 1 and 2 are mostly moot, since police almost never have the physical ability to protect individuals.

Police don't protect individuals.

Police draw chalk outlines around individuals who don't protect themselves.

If you're not willing and able to protect YOURSELF, you're just not going to get protected AT ALL. Anybody who tells you different is a liar.

Anyone who thinks about that "you're on your own" statement must realize that its nothing new. It makes no difference if there is a cop standing 40 feet away - you are still on your own until he or she arrives. And THAT means until you manage to let that person know they are needed and THEN they can get to you - so you may still be dead, critically wounded, or worse - surviving to bury your child(ren).

Basically folks, YOU ARE ALWAYS ON YOU OWN. Even when the cops show up their first thing they do is to 'secure the area', not protect you. If the bad guy wants to harm you, he will anyway. You're as good as dead if you can't protect yourself. If you don't own a gun - buy one and get some training. If you do own one - buy more. You should have a loaded firearm with you at all times, and if you don't want to wear one as often as you wear pants, you'll need one in every room, in the garage, basement, attic, kitchen, etc. No weapon accessible is 'no weapon', in which case you're on your own again.

I reckon we got use to that "on your on" because I spent years on my Great Uncle's ranch in East Texas growing up. The Deputy Sheriff when called (and back then it was a party line) could take 1-2 hours to show up depending where in the county he was. So "on your on" is just something we were use to. Never knew any different. On the ranch we carried anything from a pistol to a 12 ga shotgun in the gun rack.
Sooo...SSDD Same Sh!t Different Day Just what we did then, as now.

The only reason I would call 911 is to get the police to come tag and remove the body.

I think NJ, MD, DE, NY, MA, RI, NH, CT, ME, CO, IL and CA are controlled by commies and are seriously infringing on people's right to protect themselves and yet no one in those commie states seem to care enough to get the laws changed. WTF kind of law is it where you have to get a permit just to buy a gun and then wait upwards of a year maybe more to get approved then practically beg or suck something to get a permit to carry. Who the hell do these people in office think they are and that their laws will prevent crime? These douche bags work for us we don't need to be asking their permission to buy any product. We as a nation seriously need to change our outlook on who really is in charge, us or the fascist/commie legislators.

One of the officers did advise him to get on the internet and look up the process for obtaining a CPL.

Couldn't have said it better! We missed you.

Wow, Piers Morgan bashing logic and reason. Say it ain't so????

When do I pause and make a phone call? Like one other poster said, "when the threat has stopped". Then, and ONLY then, will I call 911. Otherwise I'm preoccupied and trying to do multiple things at once in the face of a threat. Pure stupidity that was finally captured on video. Thank you to the OP.
