Point gun at your head for 2 hours?

An earlier post got me thinking.

DISCLAIMER: I am not asking anyone to do this under any circumstances, it is foolish and if you do decide to do it and something happens it is your own fault. I will not be held liable for anything in this post!

Is there anyone here who would willingly place their loaded handgun with one in the chamber inside of a holster, and then have the gun pointing at their head for two hours? (About as much time as it takes to watch a movie).

Just how much do you trust the fact that a gun (mechanical device) in a holstered condition 100% safe?

I am trying to figure out just how sheepish I am about the situation. I personally would NOT be willing to do this. Thanks

None of us would enjoy having a gun pointed as us even if we know it will not shoot itself, so I'm not sure what your point is.

I guess you are just testing how much we trust our guns, and for that I will point out that my 2 Glocks have been loaded with a round chambered for months now and they have not discharged themselves. So I guess you could say I trust my guns. And not to forget that it would take one hell of an act of God for the gun to magically move its trigger and release the internal safeties and fire itself.

Let me ask you a question: How much do you trust your car not to drive itself right over you?

I carry my .45 @ 3 O'Clock in my Desantis Holster pointed down If it were ever to fail it would put the round in the floor.

No where near anyones head. I honestly dont know what your method of thinking is. For 20 + years I have never had my weapon just go off. NEVER

Vehicles require a key to activate it, regardless of this fact I have not seen many people standing in front of parked cars unless they are getting into one or getting out of one. Please try another analogy thank you.

I know a gun will not go off unless the trigger is pulled. However I also know mechanical devices are not 100% reliable. I dont think anything on earth is 100% guaranteed to work except death. As a previous poster mentioned I want to gauge how many forum readers trust the mechanics of their firearm so much as to have it pointed at their head loaded.

Do you ever walk through parking lots? If so, you are walking in front of thousands of pounds of metal that can crush you and do more damage than a gun can that decides to shoot itself.

Vehicles require a key to start the engine. Guns require a hand to deactivate the safety and pull the trigger.

Keep living in ignorance if that is what works for you. Thanks

And dont forget to lock up your ammo so your gun cant load itself!

Fortunately vehicles don't travel at over 600 fps such as bullets do. Recognizing that mechanical devices have the possibility of failing does in no way make me ignorant. I trust my firearm probably as much as you do. Unless you would willingly point a loaded holstered handgun at your head. In that case you trust the firearm more than I do.

Death isn't even 100%, I've survived an occasion or two. To your OP, I would do it with a snap cap in the chamber. Same result, just without death.

Why don't we just pull the pin out of a grenade and hold it in our hand for days.

The car analogy is right. IMO its more likely to kill you as the driver behind the wheel is an unpredictable human. Could even be one to test the reliability of their sidearm by watching a movie with a round in the pipe aimed t their head. I can't believe I even posted on this one.

Why don't you ask the tens of thousands of cops and military police around the country who carry pistols cocked and loaded every single day of their lives. If it's good enough for them I think it's ok for me.

If you're carrying a good, reputable pistol in the proper holster you really don't have any room for concern. Guns are mechanical devices and mechanical devices can fail. HOWEVER, if you are buying a pistol from a well known, well established manufacturer you can be certain that they have put MANY thousands of hours of man power and R&D into their product. Ruger, Beretta, S&W, Winchester... These guys have all benn around for a long time and they wouldn't still be around if they made a product that was going to kill their customers just sitting stationary.

I can dig this and this makes plenty of sense, more so than earlier replies. Thanks!

I sleep with my loaded gun with 1 in the chamber on my night stand. Half the time when I put the gun down, I put it down pointing at my head. I sleep fine and don't think its just going to go off.

So, assuming you sleep fairly "normal" hours, you're around four times as confident that your weapon won't spontaneously discharge as the OP originally asked about.

So whaddaya think aich? Is that confident enough?

25 years never a problem. Why would you suggest pointing a loaded gun at your head. Dumb idea. Don't play with it and it won't go off. Stop looking for trouble and maybe you will stop finding it.

Wow, this thread. I just couldnt stop reading, lol. Guess I better clear my Glock & Smith, lock them up & never go to sleep, ever.

only if its my weapon

Sure as a matter of fact i wouldnt mind my weapon being pointed at my head for two hours and yes i have a cc permit and i do carry 14 in the mag and one in the tube . My weapon is striker fired which means my firing pin is at complete rest until the trigger is pulled back chance of miss fire 0% . It also has a mag out safety love it.
