Pocket pistol

Hello everyone... I'm curious if anyone could help me.. I am looking for a pocket pistol due to I weigh in at 145lbs and I'm 5"11. I do live in a open carry state but do not want anyone ever knowing I am carrying. I was sold on the Smith and Wesson bodyguard. However,, when I shot it I hated the trigger pull. Does anyone have recommendations on pocket sized pistols that do not have ridiculous trigger pull? I don't care if it's .380 caliber I have alot of respect for that caliber however I'd probably prefer 9mm.. I don't care about lasers or sweet ambidextrous safeties either.

The part I didn't like about the trigger is you pull and pull and then at the end you have to add additional pressure to actually shoot the gun. So in result it messes with my accuracy.

If you don't mind thumb safeties, go for the Sig P238 .380 or the P938 9mm.

I have a 238 for sale.

Beretta has a new .380, the Pico. I have not personally handled one, but if the trigger is similar to the Nano, it may be a good choice. I have both the Nano and the BodyGuard and the trigger on the Nano is much nicer. Galloway Precision makes a replacement trigger bar that shortens the length of the trigger pull, but does not lighten it. I had more difficulty with the length of the pull than I did with the weight of the trigger pull, so this improved the functionality of the BodyGuard quite a bit for me!

When I had to deep conceal, I always carried an LCP. It too has a long "Pocket Gun" trigger pull.
Though it makes it a Non-Target pistol for that reason, try rapid fire ( as when your life depends on it ),
you'll be surprised with what you can hit, when you point & shoot, per se'. I'm talking 8'-12' here.
But recently I spent more money on a Sig p238. You would be pleased ro shoot this one. Safety is nice, trigger is real good.
If you get a chance to rent one or better yet find someone in your area that has one or both & would burn some range time with you.
Good luck & be safe.
Merry Xmas

Welcome to the forum.

Kahr makes a nice little 380. Also the CM,PM9 fit easily in ur pocket.
The Kahr trigger is very unique.
It is long but smooth as glass and the break doesn't have added weight. You pull, then at the end it just goes bang.
I have a CW45 that isn't pocketable but has the same trigger.
My friend has a CM9 and it's very compact, but he says is very comfortable to shoot. He said it doesn't kick nearly as bad as his KT PF9 and the CM is very accurate for how small it is.

I recently bought a Ruger LCP, so I'd recommend that; it's smaller in all dimensions and lighter than the Sig P238, and on your skinny frame you probably want as small and light as possible, assuming you like the other features.

The best solution would be to go to a local range, rent the options, and see what feels comfortable for you.

My local range charge just $5 per calibre, so for $10 I could try all the .38 and 9mm pistols and revolvers they have. Bring your own ammo to lower the costs, or buy the ammo there.

Can you wait till the Glock 42 hits the stores (2014)? Rumor is it's a 380. TruthAboutGuns shows an image. Can't confirm this though till it's actually out.

Just another option when you shop.

Hey guys just wanted to say thanks for the responses! I haven't tried any of these guns to be honest and at my local gun store I can rent them I will consider them all. Hope everyone has had happy holidays! And I will also look into this Glock 42 in 2014!!

I like the Kahr P380 for pocket carry and on occasion the Kahr PM9. Both are good pocket guns and very accurate. The P380 comes with 2 mags, 1-6 rd and 1-7 rd. Same for the PM 9. Neither has external safeties. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Another "pocket pistol" you might try is the Kel-Tec P3-AT in .380. It is really light & slim, although I don't remember how the trigger pull is (been awhile since I shot one). My cousin has one and loves it b/c he can conceal it no matter what kind of clothing he is wearing.

For pocket carry, I prefer a S&W Model 642 .38 Special revolver in a leather holster concealed in my right front pants pocket. It is both comfortable and comforting. I can walk into any convenience store with my hand on the butt of my gun with no one knowing it...... From that position, I can consistently deliver two +P 125 gr. hollowpoints to the center of a TQ-19 target at 3 yards in 1.7 seconds...

How many pairs of pants have you ruined practicing that technique?

You bring up a good point -- Train in what you wear! I'll check with my bride, but I don't think I've ruined a pair of pants practicing my pocket draw, though I've done it hundreds, perhaps more than a thousand, times, at home and at the range. The weapon itself is relatively snag-free and the holster remains in the pocket as I draw. The majority of my training is done with an unloaded gun. I definitely don't want a bullet hole through cloth material or soft flesh. Lol.

Very good question, Tazman. Lol. I am far from being a clothes horse, habitually wearing about the same type of clothes everyday depending upon the season: shorts and an untucked shirt when it's warm and dress slacks/tucked shirt when it's too cool for shorts. I live in North Carolina so the weather is mild most of the town. You bring up a good point -- Train in what you wear! Your first post made it sound like you were delivering those two rounds from within your pocket, you weren't real clear about actually drawing the weapon from your pocket! You second post clarified your technique.

To whom it may concern I went to my gun range and shot the sig 938 (pocket size). Sweet gun... except it may be because there gun is used and abused but the case hit me in the glasses or hat over and over and over. Right hand completely extended. I felt like a goof ball. The trigger was nice except I feel like if I ever needed to use it... the case would burn my eyeball out!

Lol. I didn't mention the "draw from the pocket" part.... Thanks for asking. I wouldn't want anyone to think I was shooting from the holster, through my pants, without drawing. It would be even faster, but, like you say, tough on the wardrobe. Don't want to set my trousers ablaze!!! lol.

Please take note: Ruger has recently improved the trigger on the LCP. Now, the pull is much shorter than before. And Ruger has improved the sights and the grip, too. So this gun is better than ever. Before, when the trigger was much longer, I used the "double-eagle" grip, to good effect. Thumbs crossed over, with the left forefinger around the trigger guard. And even now, with the shorter trigger, that grip gives me a far better hold on this small gun. I recommend the same for any small gun, especially when the trigger is extra long.

There's nothing wrong with shooting from the pocket. Little brain storming can come up with a solution for training, but hammerless revolvers are great shooters from the pocket.

I love the kahr trigger. Check out the cm9 or 40 otherwise they make the p380 or the new economical cw380.
