Pocket 9mm decision

I have been looking into a small CC 9mm, one that I could carry in a pocket or inside my jacket pocket. I have both S&W Body guards... the .380 and .38 revolver.

I have looked at S&W Shield: the CM9 Kahr; the Beretta Nano; the Sig 290 and P938; the Ruger LC9; the Diamondback; the Kel-Tec PF9. I did not look at the Taurus or Kimbers.

I had my heart set on the Shield from the start but until I could hold it I would not make the decision. I also was not sure it was as small as I wanted either. IMO without a doubt, the Shield has the best trigger, hands down. I loved the way it felt in my hand as well but just could not get past that it was just a little to big and heavy for what I was looking for.

I love the look of the Nano but it felt wide and blocky and I did not like the slippery finish. I looked at and held it 3 times because I liked the looks.

I liked the sights on the Kahr very much and really considered this gun but would not commit until I held the Shield.

After handling these 3 , I dismissed the Kel-tec; the Ruger and the DBack.

I kept coming back to the Sigs, both the 290 and 938 but the Sig 938 just fit my hand. I loved the quality, feel, the balance and it was about was small.

After several weeks of looking, watching and reading reviews on all the small 9mm I have made my decision and will purchase the Sig Sauer P938.

Good choice. All the Micro 9's are just slightly too large for me to consider a pocket gun unless the pants had exceptionally deep pockets.

I have the 238, I'm sure the 938 will be just as fantastic. Good choice.

SCCY 9mm

All right I'm putting it there for all. Does anybody own the newest generation SCCY 9mm? How do you like it & how does it shoot? I'm buying 3 new compacts in 9mm for CCW (AKA CHL-CHP) class.

I've pocket carried an LC9 for a few years now. It works well for me. I generally wear cargo pants or cargo shorts and keep it in the hip pocket with a spare mag in the cargo pocket. It also works well in dress slacks. I fired the Shield and didn't like it. The LC9 just works better for me. I also had a M&P9c that I sold after deciding I liked the G19 better.

With the 6 round clip it fit pretty well even in shallow pockets. The pinky extension on the 7 round wants to help it worm its way into the open. I changed from pocket to a protuck holster IWB and it is just right :)

I got the 238 as a pocket back-up for my Kimber Ultra Carry. I would have gotten the 938 but it came out 2 months later. I really like the 238 and since the 938 is just a smidge bigger I am sure the 938 will fit the bill for you. My Sigs and Kimbers have been Aces for me.

I pocket carry the LC9 all the time but I'm a bigger guy so my pockets are generally a little bigger. If you're a skinny guy wearing fitted clothes it wouldn't work so well.

I've carried the 938 for about three months. I love the weapon. It conceals well with a Smartcarry holster. It is a bit large for pocket carry. I've tried it with a Recluse holster and found it only works with very large pockets. That said, I have a medium build. If you're big, the 938 might be fine for pocket carry.

I have a couple full size SIG's and you just can't go wrong with one.

With that said, I mostly pocket carry. If I'm going to pull the pistol I want it ready to go, so I went with a striker fire. I didn't want to have to pull the trigger back or carry cocked & locked trying to get it out of a pocket.

I went with the Kahr CM9

I looked at the Ruger, Nano, CM9, & S&W Shield. All 9mm and all are sticker fire.

At first I was going to go with the Nano. I have a couple of Beretta's and like them but after holding a Nano and putting it in my pocket I decided no, it was too big. And to be honest, I didn't care for the looks of it.

I finally found a Shield to look at, it was already sold. It also was too big for pocket carry. You may as well get the M&P Compact, it's a 12 shot.

The Ruger is about the same size as the Kahr but uglier and if you are honest with yourself, who wants an ugly gun? Plus I didn’t care for the way it held.

Have fun looking. I've found that most people behind the counter are bored (maybe not so much these days) and are more than happy to talk to you and lend their advise.

who wants an ugly gun??? how silly can you get? have you ever heard a plumber say I won't use a wrench because it is ugly?

nonetheless good luck with your Kahr I hope it gives you many years of safe service

Carhartt pants have big enough pockets to CC a Tokarev. I can carry most of my sidearms (not all at once of course) in the pockets. Don't own any AK pistols so haven't tried that.

I'm actually surprised you would say the LC9 is ugly compared to the Kahr. I would say the total opposite myself. I have nothing against the Kahr but the LC9 has safety features I wanted and it's been 100% reliable through multiple brands of cheap and expensive JHP and FMJ ammo. The length of the trigger pull took a little getting used to but the pull is smooth so it's not a big deal.

I apologize Gentlemen, I’m not sure what I was thinking to say such a sweet little pistol was ugly.

I like an air weight J frame revolver for pocket carry! My PM9 seems to heavy for pocket carry but works well in smart carry or IWB.

I stopped pocket carry of my TCP and now do IWB... the micro 9mm's are too large for my liking in pocket carry. I didn't like the .380 in the pocket, the only thing I would pocket carry now is my little .32 derringer.
