They're one of the hottest items in the gun industry today. As more and more states pass laws allowing the concealed carry of a pistol, millions of people have sought out this firearm. Lightweight and easily concealed, they are still powerful enough to stop a determined attacker. I speak of course about the pocket .380 [...]

Pocket .380 Pistols

Problem is that was then , this is now. Plenty of the companies now have 9mm the same size as those pocket 380's out there.Four to five years ago, the only pocket pistols out there were 380 or smaller calibers. Now you can go to a Ruger LC9, Beretta Nano, Kahr PM or CM9, and the XDS to name a few.. I am NOT knocking the 380 as 60 % of the time I have a S&W bodyguard as my carry. However , it is important to practice with what you carry. Up until a month ago 9mm ammo was running about $5-7 a box cheaper than 380 ammo. That is one concern I tell my students , if the ammo is cheaper , you are more likely to practice. And if you reload , try to find once fired 380 brass that is cheaper than 9mm brass. The important part when you carry is to hit what you are aiming at and to always carry, the more practice you have, the more proficient you will be.

I'd have to agree. The .380 was the cats meow in its day. Now with the new technology and larger caliber carry pistols the same size why shoot 3 or 4 times when 1 maybe 2 will do it. I tell everyone carry the largest caliber you can conceal and handle proficiently. 45 acp is a great caliber if you can afford to practice with it and are comfortable with the recoil. 9mm is cheap and abundant, a great range and self defense gun! I personally have carried both and now looking into the S&W Shield 40. I like the size weight and caliber. It's a happy medium, more expensive than 9 but less than 45.

As these calibers come on stronger in the pocket pistol category, smaller calibers will fall to the way side. Once that happens ammo manufacturers will start doing what every company does. They'll produce more popular calibers In quantity than others. Driving the price of .380 and .25 through the roof.

These are just my opinions and not facts. You may feel differently and that's ok. Just carry what you like, and what you can afford!

Have the LCP here, then added the LC9. Now have added the Taurus PT145, same length and width as the LC9 and a 1/4 inch thicker. Gives 10+1 rnds of 45, and very easy to conceal.

Always liked the KelTec P3AT. Great little gun, very thin, very light.
.

Of course, I've traded it for a PF9 in 9x19, not much larger or heavier (+5 oz.) and more ammo options.

.
We have an embarassment of wealth when it comes to choices in small pistols these days.

Owned a Sig P238. But despite its excellent sights, I couldn't shoot it worth a dang. The caliber doesn't matter much if you can't hit anything. Sold the Sig and bought a 9mm Colt New Agent with Crimson Trace grips. The Colt NA's grip is a much better fit for my hand...and my shot patterns are much improved.

I don't know when you guys have held all the new smaller handguns...but none of the 9mm are as small as the .380's...in all dimensions (height, length, and weight)...none fit comfortable in a pocket...maybe that was just me.

I agree my lc9 will do pocket but not nearly as well as my lcp. I carry LCP pocket if I cant carry lc9 IWB.

What about the new LC380 which just came out for 2013? Exactly the same as LC9 but chambered in .380

:dance3:

The older .380 and .32 ACP were originally designed as true pocket pistols, usually in a jacket or coat pocket. I think it is pretty much tradition.

I carry my beautiful Walther PPK. 380. Small, strong, reliable. With the precision it gave, I will assure you that one of my bullet is going to be enough to stop the bad guy. This litter gun put the ammo where you put your eye with an excellent grouping if you decided to double tap...

I thought you were joking, so I looked in to it. Yep, LC380 based on the popular LC9 platform. Why? Maybe less kick than a 9mm for those who have physical problems?

Exactly right. Same package but less recoil.
Which is nice I must say. I use the Taurus TCP .380 and its not the kind of gun you want to put a couple of hundred rounds through!
Stout little kick on that pocket piece!

Sorry if my grammar disrupted you. English is not my native language. What make me happy is that you understand my point. This make bilingual. How many languages do you speak, write and read??..
... Just saying....

Anyways you cannot say that in civilian, (not LEO, or Militia) the most important aspect of your self defense use of a gun is not placement....

Why settle for a single stack .380 when a you can fit a 10mm Glock29 in your pocket with a 10rd mag?

If you can fit 10mm Glock in your pocket, then I have a very large sized, red colored bridge in San Francisco that I want to sell to you.
