I have read all laws, bought apts and looked on this web sight. I have a valid KY resident permit that honored by these states. Can I legally carry on my person in my own car passing through these states. I even tried calling one state today and they would not answer questions. I just always try to stay legal with it and it makes me nervous if I don't totally understand what I read about each state. Any info would help

The Federal Firearms Transport Act allows you to keep gun locked in trunk and ammo in a interior area not accessible to the driver. On the other hand if you have CCW permits from states accepting your home states CCW your good to go. I went west once this year and only had to lock up thru MD and IL.

I drove from Indiana to Hilton Head about 6 months ago. Indiana permit is honored in all but one of the states and I put my gun in the trunk through that state. If the state honors your license you can carry in that state in as well as out of your car - just be aware of their laws on whether you need to inform police if they pull you over that you're carrying and places you're not allowed to carry in that state like schools, gov't offices, etc.

RCR29, how is this different from your other thread on this topic?
My other thread was high jacked with people arging back and forth of its a problem I will delete it. I was just trying to get an answer before I leave tommorow

Ah, that it was... I've noticed that happens a LOT around here. :(

With the usual caveat that IANAL: If the state recognizes your permit, or offers reciprocity with your state, then you can carry a concealed, loaded firearm in your car in that state.

Just be sure to understand whether you must inform law enforcement immediately if pulled over, and be aware of other laws if you stop for a meal, gas, lodging, etc.

It looks like all of those states honor your KY permit, so driving with a concealed, loaded handgun isn't an issue. By federal law you need to stay at least 1000' from any schools as well (even in your car) if you don't have a permit issued by the state you are visiting. Practically speaking that is very hard to do, and you won't likely know if it happens, so just do your best to avoid schools if traveling on surface streets.

Have a safe trip!

Thank you so much for the info

do you have a permit from your home state to carry concealed? If yes then you may carry concealed. Handgunlaw.us is your friend

this is only true in the few states that require you to inform, in the states that do not require you to inform the best advice is to don't ask don't tell

The OP said in his opening post, and in the other thread, that he holds a permit from his home state of KY. FL and SC honor only resident permits from KY. GTG.

Alabama, Nebraska, Alaska, Nevada, Arizona, New Hampshire, Arkansas, Colorado, North Carolina, North Dakota, Florida, Ohio, Georgia, Oklahoma, Idaho, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Indiana, Iowa, South Dakota, Kansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas, Louisiana, Utah, Vermont, Michigan.West Virginia, Mississippi, Wisconsin, Missouri, Wyoming, Montana.

Generally these are the states that allow you to carry concealed if you have a CCL from your home state. Now these do change year to year so there may be more that I am not aware of.
