Places to shoot around Dickinson

I just moved to ND from MA (socialist hell) and now live in Dickinson. I recently purchased a Glock and have been itching to shoot it. It was under my impression that you could go out to Little Missouri Grasslands, find some public or PLOTS land, walk 150 yards in and shoot away. It seems that the Western Grasslands is cut up into 3-4 different organizations (forest service, National Park service, ND state parks and PLOTS).

Is this accurate? I don't mind the drive out there, I just want to shoot someplace free, not piss off land owners or break the law.
