ALL (109) of the countries above America, HAVE 100% gun bans!

.
It might be of interest to note that SWITZERLAND is not shown on this list, because it has...NO MURDER OCCURRENCE!

.
I find this interesting.

.
SWITZERLAND'S law requires that EVERYONE:
.
1. Own a gun.
2. Maintain Marksman qualifications ... Regularly.
(Switzerland provides every citizen with 250 rounds of ammo yearly. 100 of that is used in yearly government MANDATORY Marksman qualifying, for EVERYONE over the age of 10.)

.
Is there something to be learned from this??

.
I think the message is - loud and clear...

.
GUN bans and restrictions...DO NOT REDUCE MURDERS!!! THERE IS AN INVERSE CORRELATION!!!

.

Really? I find this interesting:

n 2005 over 10% of [Switzerland] households contained handguns, compared to 18% of U.S. households that contained handguns. In 2005 almost 29% of households in Switzerland contained firearms of some kind, compared to almost 43% in the US.

In Switzerland:
In order to purchase most weapons, the purchaser must obtain a weapon acquisition permit (Art. 8 WG). Swiss citizens over the age of 18 who are not psychiatrically disqualified nor identified as posing security problems, and who have a clean criminal record can request such a permit. Foreigners with the following citizenship are explicitly excluded from the right to possess weapons: Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Algeria and Albania (Art. 12, WV). The following information must be provided to the cantonal weapon bureau together with the weapon application form:

valid official identification or passport copy
residence address
criminal record copy not older than 3 months

For each transfer of a weapon or an essential weapon component without weapons acquisition permit (Art. 10 WG), a written contract must be concluded. Each Party shall keep them at least ten years. The contract must include the following information (Art. 11 WG):

Family name, first name, birth date, residence address and signature of the person who sells the weapon or essential weapon component
Family name, first name, birth date, residence address and signature of the person who purchases the weapon or an essential weapon component
Kind of weapon, manufacturer or producer, label, caliber, weapon number, and date and place of transfer;
Type and number of official identification of the person who acquires the weapon or the essential weapon component
and an indication of the processing of personal data in connection with the contract in accordance with the privacy policy of the Federation or the cantons, if firearms are transmitted.

This information must be sent within 30 days to the cantonal weapon registration bureau, where the weapon holders are registered (Art. 9 WG).

In Switzerland:
In order to purchase ammunition the buyer must follow the same legal rules that apply to buying guns. The buyer can only buy munition for guns that he/she legally owns and must provide the following information to the seller (Art. 15, 16 WG; Art 24 WV):

valid official identification or passport (and must be older than 18 and who are not psychiatrically disqualified nor identified as posing security problems, and must not be a citizen of the following countries (Art. 12 WV): Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Algeria and Albania)
residence address
criminal record copy not older than 3 months
weapon acquisition permit not older than 2 years, or a weapon carrying permit not older than 5 years

This also applies for weapons which do not require a weapon acquisition permit (see above, excluding the weapon acquisition permit, of course).

This information must be sent within 30 days to the cantonal weapon registration bureau, where the weapon holder is registered.

The same applies to black powder and modern black powder substitutes for use in firing historical rifles.

In Switzerland:
To carry a loaded firearm in public or outdoors (and for an individual who is a member of the militia carrying a firearm other than his Army-issue personal weapons off-duty), a person must have a Waffentragbewilligung (gun carrying permit), which in most cases is issued only to private citizens working in occupations such as security.[7] It is, however, quite common to see a person serving military service to be en route with his rifle, albeit unloaded.
Conditions for getting a Carrying Permit

There are three conditions:

fulfilling the conditions for a buying permit (see section above)
stating plausibly the need to carry firearms to protect oneself, other people, or real property from a specified danger
passing an examination proving both weapon handling skills and knowledge regarding lawful use of the weapon

The carrying permit remains valid for a term of five years (unless otherwise surrendered or revoked), and applies only to the type of firearm for which the permit was issued. Additional constraints may be invoked to modify any specific permit. Neither hunters nor game wardens require a carrying permit.

In Switzerland:
Transporting guns

Guns may be transported in public as long as an appropriate justification is present. This means to transport a gun in public, the following requirements apply:

The ammunition must be separated from the gun, no ammunition in a magazine.
The transport needs to be as direct as possible and needs a valid purpose:
For courses or exercises hosted by marksmanship, hunting or military organisations,
To an army warehouse and back,
To show the gun to a friend or a possible buyer
To and from a holder of a valid arms trade permit,
To and from a specific event, e.g. gun shows.

So - do you really want the US to be like Switzerland?

I don't want to be like Switzerland! However, from my personal travels on 5 continents, the 5 places I felt most in danger were:

1.San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Have a very large $ term life policy active before visiting.
2.Guatemala City , Guatemala.. The gangbangers are as young as 8 or 9 and baseball bats are their weapon of choice.
3.Rio de Janeiro. No one is safe here. Only robbed once in 10 trips but that was just luck.
4.Cuidad Juarez, Mexico. Right across the river from El Paso. The Pass has about 5 murders per 100,000. CJ, 160 per 100,000. Stay far away. The deadliest city in the world.
5.Baltimore,Maryland. Lived there for 2 years. It's not all bad, but not enough is good to warrant a prolonged visit!

Honorable Mentions:

South Central L.A.
Liberty City Miami
South Side Chicago
Kingston, Jamaica

Quite incorrect.

Swiss gunman kills self, four others in domestic shooting | Reuters
Switzerland shooting leaves three dead near Interlaken - Telegraph
Police: 4th person dead in Switzerland factory shooting - CNN.com
3 dead, 2 wounded when man opens fire in Swiss village - CBS News

And these are only murders with firearms. In 2014, there were a total of 41 murders in Switzerland, 18 with firearms. Switzerland had a murder rate of 0.49 per 100,000 population, the lowest since the start of the nationwide coordinated collection of statistical data in 1982 (Link Removed).

Also quite incorrect. The government-issued SIG 550 is a personal weapon while in military service and can be taken home only without ammo. After completing military service, a permit is required to keep the firearm (Link Removed, source 2). There is no requirement to own a gun. In fact, there is the option to serve in an alternative civilian service instead of the military (both are draft-based). The Swiss government only provides ammunition to those on active duty in the military service.

I'm surprised that the anti-s aren't pointing to Switzerland's federal gun registration and license requirements as the reason for the low murder rate, especially given how much some of the pro-gun side likes to point to Switzerland's mandatory military service as the reason.

And cities like Chicago would be in the upper third of that list.

Chicago would be far down on that list. Americas 5 most deadly cities are Detroit 43.5,St.Louis 49.9,New Orleans 38.7, Baltimore 33.8, Newark 33.3 as we can see from these FBI 2014 crime stats.

All figures shown above are homicides per 100,000 people.

Chicago is at 15.1. Its violence is vastly overstated. People tend to forget it's Americas 3rd largest city with 2.7 million people.
New York City is amazing at 3.9 with 8.4 million people, among the very safest of the worlds mega cities.

Miami is at 19.2 so its more violent than Chicago. Yet I feel quite safe living here. You do have to know your neighborhoods.

Americans can apply for gun permits in Guatemala. The chances are fairly good for obtaining one.

Hmmmmm…

Interesting. Not sure where you got this list from, but I know that it is wrong in regards to Mexico having a 100% BAN ON FIREARMS. Yes, they are very restrictive, such as requiring a license to own a firearm, banning civilian ownership of handguns in a caliber greater than 9mm, banning military grade firearms, and other restrictions. But, while they are VERY restrictive, this is far from a 100% ban.

Wouldn't surprise me to find that other information on this list is also incorrect.

I saw and interview with a Mexican farmer not long ago, and he said that coyotes were killing lots of his sheep, and because he couldn't have a rifle, he was helpless to do anything about it.
