Hey guy, happy New years... quick question,, applied for permit, I am down to my References filling out there Confirmation paper,etc... now I have (1) refs; who feels the questions towards her are too personal, & where do I stand at this point,. will I lose all my funds toward fingerprinting & the application., or can they let me use another references.. someone please.. thanks ahead of

What state permit are you referring to?

In NC, the sheriff is responsible for granting or denying CHPs. Some sheriff's used to require notarized character affidavits as part of the application. HB562 passed last year no longer permits individual sheriffs to add these extra (beyond state law) requirements, which also includes additional background checks, photographs or employment information.

If you are in NC, the sheriff is not following the changes in the law.

But your best source of information would be the sheriff or agency you apply through in your state. Call the department at the agency that handles applications and ask.

Curious, what questions are they asking your reference that they are uncomfortable with, just how onerous are the questions?
