Pistol Permit Denied

I live in Erie county, my background check is shiny and my pistol permit was denied by an active Justice of the Supreme Court all because I got " unfavorable recommendation of applicants submitted character references" I put them on there because we use to get along until they got uncomfortable with my negative looks and tone of voice. Thats just how I am, what does that have to do with me holding a gun? AND I'm in the best police academy in New York State right now. My instructor is super aggressive and he's holding a gun...hasn't anybody else had this little problem before? And yes you know I'm getting an lawyer for this!

When choosing your references your best friend, co-worker for twenty years, your neighbour whom you dog sit for may not be in your best interests as a reference. I cannot stree enuf for you being the applicant to sit down face to face which your potential reference an find out exactly where they stand on firearms. If they are not pro gun drop them right quick.

I never did but I do no you have to be pretty careful on who you choose for these things. Sometimes it's amazing how far the officer doing the background can swing things around if he chooses to do so and he's interviewing the wrong people.
You say you're in the police academy right now? I assume that you're going to be in law-enforcement shortly yourself. If that's the case hold off on the lawyer and then resubmit it once you're actively involved in law-enforcement. I find it hard to believe that even in a communist country like Neuyorkistan that judge would dare shoot you down again. If he does then that would be the time to get that lawyer on it though in the meantime why spend the money.
You have to remember this godforsaken state that the local judge has authority not the state to grant those. Here in Clinton County until this year we had a judge that flat refused to issue any carry permits to anybody the entire time he was here just because he was a snowflake. Could it be that's the case with yours?

This is your first denial and its coming from a judge on the supreme court? You live in Erie, PA but are in the New York Police Academy?

Ive never even seem them go check the listed references. Hand in the application here in Berks county and as long as the instant background check doesnt flag you, your permit is approved on the spot and you get the pic taken for the card

Sure.

Oh contrare my friend at least In NY. A guy I worked with at DHS. for a couple decades with put in for one and used me as a reference. Sure enough the BCI NYSP who was doing it called and just talked to me. Here's the thing, he knew both of us pretty well from arrests we'd handed him over the years. He still called though and just asked a couple questions about how much he drank, getting rowdy ect. So at least here they do check the references even if you're a cop.
Way back 30 some years back when I drifted back to Neuyorkistan my next door neighbor was the investigator who did it. He impressed me to make damned sure to be careful who I put for references. Not because they screw you deliberately but because the are forgetful. He said many of them just fail to fill out the paperwork relating to you or lose it. That screws things up and nobody knows to tell you.
In my case he said the day he got the packet he'd stamp it and it still took exactly 6 months. Why, because many of them have a policy of sitting on them that long. They can be as arbitrary as they like and abuse it to the max.

My references never got called. I suspect it varies from county to county, or how the sheriff feels about your demeanor when you turn in the app, or how busy they are.

So how did this turn out anyways? I’m curious you made out. If you just gave up and went away [emoji848]that’s just what they are expecting as most people do.

Well, I hate to be the one to kick the elephant in the room, but if you can't even get a
private pistol permit,
how are you going to become a Police Officer?
