Pistol Foregrips

You have a pistol with a undercarriage rail and it is a perfectly legal firearm. You place a quick release removable foregrip on the rail and the pistol is still the same pistol and can be shot the same way as before, howver, the foregrip provides you with extra stability for long range target shooting---it is now an illegal firearm. Tell me that the ATF and its rules are not ridiculous.
