A grain of sand
not too hard, take one grain of sand, place it next to your average 21' above ground pool, get on a tall ladder and look down, yeah that should be close....
Ah. You mean if I were to take the diameter of the BIG sun and divide it by our Sun's diameter I could find out how small that "grain of sand" would be in diameter.
Hummm 2,800,000,000km / 1,392,082.56km = 2,011.375 times
Then I take the 21 foot pool and multiply it by 12 inches to make it easier to see what part of an inch the grain of sand is in diameter instead of what part of a foot. Both the numbers will be the same, but the inch measurement will be more familiar to us.
21 feet x 12 inches = 252 inches.
Then, taking the 252 inches and dividing it by the 2,011.375 factor we get:
252 / 2,011.375 = .1253 inches. Hummmm, an 1/8th of an inch.
According to Wikipedia
Gravel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that would be gravel.
"
Gravel (pronounced
/ˌgɹavʌl/) is a rock that is of a specific
particle size range. Specifically, it is any loose
rock that is larger than 2 mm (0.079 in) in its smallest dimension (about 1/12 of an inch) and no more than 64
mm (2.5
in). The next smaller size class in geology is
sand, which is >0.0625 to 2 mm (0.0025 to 0.0787 in) in size."
The sand I was raised around is about .010-.020 in size if I remember correctly... And THAT means using one of those grains of sand the swimming pool would be about TWO feet in diameter, not 21 feet.
Wouldn't even need a tall ladder. Whether the difference in size between a two foot pool and a 21 foot pool "are close", I'll leave that up to others to decide.
Maybe one or two persons who are members of USACarry.com will find the above information interesting... maybe.
I find it interesting because fifty or so years ago, when I was in school, I somehow managed to get D's and F's on my Math and English report cards.
Somewhere about forty-five years ago I realized I really didn't like my peers and others putting a label on me of someone who couldn't/can't add 2+2 and come up with 4 every time or someone who couldn't spell and at least use third or forth grade grammar correctly.
It took me a LOT of hours over the years to gain pride in MYSELF and how I looked to others in the way I wrote and spelled. It probably came easy for many many people, but for me it was a LOT of work.
I don't know WHY it was so important for me to at least be able to use grade school grammar and spelling, but it was/is for me to be able to feel good about myself.
I look around on the many different forums I am on a various times and see that it just isn't a high priority for many many others on the www.
It is just a personal thing, some people derive enjoyment from seeing words spelled correctly and assembled in sentences. For others... it makes no never mind. It is all part of no two of us are alike on this big ball of mud we call Earth. As long as we are okay/happy when looking in the mirror at ourselves, then I suppose that is what counts more so than what others think of us.
Buying a SPAS-12 would really go a long ways in making me happy too! $1,500 for a used one or $2,200 for a new one is out of my reach.
If someone just had one I could buy for a reasonable price...like $500 or so. Never gonna happen.
Hopefully everyone had a nice Christmas and your New Year was enjoyable.
