I get so tired. If I didn't have the old folks and a kid to take care of, I would be out of this state SO fast. It's like herding snakes with a rake. Every time you think you get a handle on ONE problem...

I'm now aware of how ridiculous this mace law is. Why on God's green earth do we have to give people FID tests so they can carry mace? Sure, I don't mind the money, but it's SO unfair and counter productive. What the heck does some college kid care about the different types of actions hand guns have? Why do they need to be bothered with all this stuff to carry a stupid little pepper spray canister?

This is like taking a class 1 test to drive a moped. If the commonwealth insists on sucking money from every shade of the spectrum, they should at least have the decency to devise some no brain ten question test for mace. These college kids, who I believe are the majority of the demographic utilizing these tools for self defense have enough studying to do without taking a gun owners test, which is ridiculous even for its own intent, so they can purchase a spray of condensed vegetable oils many of us use to enhance the flavor of tacos.

Why isn't GOAL or the NRA stepping up at the state house and ending this lunacy? These kids were smart enough to get into college and get a driver's license but assachusetts thinks they're too stupid to handle a can of pepper spray? There needs to be an intelligence test for our legislature. This is just too stupid.

I don't know enough about the law, but maybe somebody here does. Can a class action law suit be brought against MA for all the kids who are robbed, murdered, raped or assaulted on campuses because they were denied a reasonable means of self defense by the state?

That is the case in New York. Self defense pepper spray/mace can only be sold to people over the age of 18 by a licensed firearms dealer or pharmacists (guns and drug distributors - now that's an odd combination of bedfellows.)

But the more potent bear spray can be sold by any retailer to any one without age restriction because it is a registered pesticide.

Only thing that sucks here is you cant carry an ASP baton because its considered a " Bludgeon object " or Id carry one of those, you have to take some sort of class because and I quote "It can be a lethal weapon"
My question is, if I can carry a gun, why can I not carry an ASP baton? What the hell is the difference between the two, except if I shoot you, youre dead, if I happen to hit you, youre at best unconscious...

A Family Circle magazine can be a lethal weapon. Depends on your training. Both of my knees have been broken. I have a clear medical history of surgery and treatment. I'm designing a fighting cane from northern white birch which will be quite lethal, and I don't even think the TSA can take it away from me. I'm starting fabricating prototypes tomorrow. Just got the fresh stock in today.

You can buy pepper spray in MA. The permit is simple to get stand alone, and as I recall it does not have a fee. If you have a MA gun permit, it is good for pepper spray.

While other states have no requirement, you need to be at least 18 yrs old in MA. For what it is worth, MA is a shall issue state for pepper spray.

You have to go to a police station for the paperwork.

LOL, got to love my state we can carry it all with no permits needed(other then for concealed carry). Even that will soon be done away with.We just did away with knife laws and removed them from the books. You can now own/carry auto knifes. Last time I checked we don't even have a max length that you can carry. My dream carry firearm would be a HK PDW full auto with a sound suppressor and 100 roung drum mag :biggrin: .

MA requires a "restricted FID" to purchase or possess chemical defensive spray. The license fee is $ 25.00, no training is required, and the application form is the same as an FID or LTC. The basis for the license requirement stems from the fact that chemical defensive sprays are identified as ammunition by statute. I agree that it's rediculous. GOAL has backed a bill that would change this, but it's stuck in the legislative process. In the meantime, persons who possess these sprays without a license are potential felons. Many out-of-state visitors are not aware of this.

Tell your unlicensed loved ones to keep a cab of wasp and hornet spray by the front door. It works great on those pesky two legged hornets.

There was legislation begun this year H4102 that would limit the purchase to 1 firearm per 30 day period and do away with private face to face sales by means of the FA10 form. All sales would have to be conducted through a licensed dealer/FFL.

I'm sure that if you look up the word infringement in a dictionary, the map of Massachusetts would be used as an example...

Only the aware or desperate have pepper spray in MA since licensed gun owners can have it, otherwise someone that just wants pepper spray has to do the paperwork and you can imagine how many just give up.

You have to show the license to buy it, they are not displayed as freely as in other states.

It is the age old story about more liberal locations where those that want it in a hurry, are some that voted for people that made it this way!

I might start selling box cutters from beneath my trench coat on all the campuses in Boston. They are legal to conceal, easy to obtain, inexpensive, can bring down a 757 aircraft, so should be more than sufficient to defend one's self in a dark parking garage, circumvent current MA gun laws, and will prevent all these poor kids trying to get edumacated from having to choose between being victims or law breakers in assachusetts. Maybe eventually the legislature will say, "Gee, maybe there'd be less be headings on campuses if we made mace/pepper spray more available." Just a thought. We need to get rid of these liberal politicians. People are starting to wise up but not fast enough.
