People are stupid

Fm: MD at The Patriot Nation

I fear for my country when I consider how stupid many of the citizens have become. To say that it's quite alarming would be a gross understatement.

I have explained things to people in the most simple of terms, only to be asked for clarification because they don't understand the calamity of their thinking.

Then, it takes all of the self-control I can muster to hold my tongue and keep from asking...how can you really be that stupid?

What has happened to the brains of people in America, you might ask?

I'll tell you what's happened; people no longer think for themselves. They rely on the media and television to do their thinking for them.

Then you have the cliques who believe if their chosen politician said it then it must be true and everyone else is lying, never believing for a second that perhaps their chosen one has gotten things mixed up or God forbid is flat out lying.

It seems most people don't question anything anymore and just accept whatever they hear from the media, president, or their friends as gospel truth.

America is so screwed...because it's no longer about "what can you do for your country" but...what can I get from the government?

What price are you willing to put on your freedom? What will you sell out the future of your children for? Healthcare? Gun control?

As for me...I will die on my feet before I live my life on my knees, as said by Emiliano Zapata.

What's happened is the socialized education of our children and the social decay of this once great nation. Now we are reaping what we have sown over the years. The children of the great society created in the sixties are now our leaders both local and national. We have indoctrinated our children over the years with revised history about what an evil racist nation America is. We have been indoctrinated to accept life styles that where once unacceptable as normal today. We have been indoctrinated to believe government is the solution to every unfair act.

Problems like this are real and don't lend themselves to the simplistic, single-cause (evil liberals) solutions so many like to come up with. Legislators are at fault for paying teachers so poorly that the profession attracts and keeps more than its share of hacks. Colleges are at fault for having education departments (to train K-12 teachers) of abysmal quality. Teachers unions are at fault for protecting incompetent teachers guaranteeing poor classroom attendance and minimal motivation to learn. Liberals are at fault for, among other things, forcing school policies that proclaim all students are equally brilliant and all teachers are inherently good. Various agenda-based organizations (particularly ones tied to racial and ethnic minorities) try, usually successfully, to bias curricula in their favor and to ban books and lessons they deem"offensive" (e.g., Huckleberry Finn). They also tend to favor the absurd open classrooms with no attendance or attentiveness rules and of course try to inject their social and political views into the mix. Conservatives are at fault for parental and organizational agenda-based meddling with curricula and books that don't mesh with their political, social, and (especially egregiously) religious views of the world, and unchallenged students don't get sufficiently exposed to science (particularly evolution) and challenging ideas--to the uncomfortable issues with which they'll have to deal. Parents are at fault for letting their kids incessantly watch TV, play video games, and define themselves among peer with cell phones; an inevitable byproduct is that kids generally feel entitled to be entertained consistently and turn off anything requiring sustained attention and/or anything they find "boring," like studying and concentrating in class. If kids don't read a lot ("boring") they won't think very well--much less critically--and will write abysmally. Charter schools did exceptionally well for years, but as more parents saw attendance at those schools as clear indicators or success, they brought unrelenting pressure on school boards and legislatures to open charter schools' enrollment to kids who were clearly not academically qualified by redefining intelligence and what academic achievements are noteworthy. Now, at many of those schools, the bar has been lowered for all. The home school movement has exploded; some are successful but most are laughable. The K-12 situation is disgusting and almost unfixable. At the college level, much the same things are going on, but less intensively, and freshman year at many consists of remedial courses to cover what students should have learned in K-12. The current obsessive and maniacal focus on test scores alone as measures of achievement is already subordinating education to testmanship and is likely to drive out even more of the great K-12 teachers. Sad to say, American education is prime cause of the dumbing down of the country and it's only going to get worse unless somebody comes up with a magic way of eliminating meddlesome parents and interest groups from the equation, incentive the best and brightest to become teachers, take K-12 education out of the hands of local school boards, raise teacher pay, blunt the impact of teachers unions, and make our legislators look at education as an investment in the future.

I have to agree. 20 years ago I always had a hard time understanding how folks would follow the antichrist as told in the book of Revelation. Now i understand it perfectly. You only have to look at how blindly some are following Obama (not saying he is the antichrist) to understand that by and large most people can't lead anymore they are simply blind followers.
