Pearl Harbor After Visiting Hours

I just received this in my email today. I had no idea that the Navy provided this service to eligible veterans from the USS Arizona. It seems only fitting that their request be granted and that they are remembered by our nation. I was going to say "grateful" nation but there doesn't seem to be much gratitude left today for what has been and is still being sacrificed by our military members. We have so few remaining former service members in our government who are aware of the debt the country owes to all veterans. The current administration seems to look at the military with antipathy and is slowly reducing our military preparedness at a time it should be increased. But, what the hell, let DHS fight the next wars!

My dad was a Pearl Harbor Survivor, and I tried to take him back to Pearl for many, many years, but he was never interested. Then when he finally wanted to go, his health wouldn't allow it. It just goes to show that one shouldn't put things off, since one never knows what tomorrow may bring.

Hawaii honors our fallen many ways.

I vacationed in Hawaii in 2005 and spent most of my time in and around the military sites involving the sacrifice of our Armed Forces during WWII.

Visiting the Arizona Memorial was very emotional for me as a veteran and speaking with a volunteer at the memorial that was a survivor was truly rewarding, informative and gratifying being able to thank them for their service, devotion and sacrifice.
~
Visiting the National Cemetery in Punch Bowl Crater was the hardest thing I have ever done. The facility is beautiful and beautifully maintained and my eyes tear up just thinking of the cost paid by those who are interned there.~

These grave markers bother me the most and will so until my dying day, for they who died for our freedom have not been truly honored for their service.

These veterans are still listed as MIA yet buried as Unknown truly bothers me as a veteran myself.

God bless all who have given the ultimate and those that survived. No where in the world and in history will you ever find FREE individuals that gave their life for the hope that others will be FREE individuals. Never since the dawn of man has this been replicated. Ive always said,since the draft was done away with,we have politicians who dont have a clue about the armed forces and then pass laws that affect the military.if you havent served you shouldnt be allowed to legislate on military matters.

A military dependent has more of a clue than the current occupier of the WH. And many of them have never left the US or lived overseas with the locals.

Even that is something I wish many more Americans had experience with, spending time in other countries. And I'm not talking about short vacations to other countries either. I can't believe how so many Americans advocate that we emulate things in other countries when they've never had time there to experience those things first hand. I lived in England for four years courtesy of the military and I guarantee you Obamacare never would have passed if most Americans could have had a taste of the British national health system for a few months, or maybe even a year or so. Our oldest son was born in England and so was eligible for their system. Even though we had health care through the military, we took him for local health care treatment twice, simply as a matter of convenience. We vowed we would never, ever do that again. That goes for other countries and other governmental aspects beyond health care as well. I've experienced many over the years. If more Americans could experience what the rest of the world is like, they'd be far more appreciative of what we have here. They'd also be more likely to fight to preserve what we have rather than trying to change it, much like most of the membership here.
