I was going to build my first ar ,however for the prices I could find for all the components, I could buy a complete rifle,
Did research, but you find pos and neg about almost any manufacturer/ builder. I realize it might be a case of cart b4 the horse , but, I just purchased my first ar, haven't received it yet. I was wondering if anybody have a review or experience with Palmetto state Armory complete ar?

Honestly, I think most are pretty solid....You'll have lovers and haters of all brands. The components are generally interchangeable so I don't think there is a major amount of difference between most of them. The plus side, if there are a couple things you don't like, just swap those parts out.

THANKS KCD1974; yeah, I can, hope that my ar will not need to right off the bat. I did read somewhere that the trigger might be a little stiff or " rough". Website states "combat trigger", smooth pull. I might replace w/ two stage at some point. just waiting for it to arrive to get a shake out, then I will have a better idea.

I heard only good things about palmetto state. I visited them a month back in Asheville. Very friendly and great service!

as far as i know, they only have stores around columbia, sc.

Your right. Wife and I went to Indiana from Jacksonville this fall saw it from the highway and on the way back through we stopped. Thought it was asheville it is Columbia. Either way great people! Bought a lot of .223 online from them and was nice to put a face to the name!

Palmetto State Armory has two stores in Columbia, SC and one in Beaufort. I got one of their AR kits earlier this year (16" hammer-forged barrel). The upper was already assembled to the barrel for proper torque and had been test fired. I assembled the lower including the trigger, safety and magazine release components. I also assembled the stock and buffer spring assembly. It was fun and easy as long as you follow directions in order. I used the MagPul MOE "furniture" and love it. The rifle is fun to shoot and is of good quality.

As an update to my PSA RIFLE. I ordered my rifle 11/03/2012. According to website, 10 to 15 business days to build and ship a rifle. I was/am getting anxious to get my AR. I decided to call customer service to check on status. First off, I was told many, many times by a recording" all customer service reps are busy, please call back later" click! Ok, so I called and called, and finally got a rep. Gave her info ,invoice#, and was told customer service doesn't have that info on status. Ok, so I thought I'd wait til the following week and see if any info was available, many many trys, finally a person. Was told same, but I could call the factory or another @ she gave me and they would have status. Another recording, and stay on line to leave a voice message. Oh the voice mail was full! i called customer service again, same, the person I spoke to then said the website needed to be changed, 10-15 business days was wrong. It would be at least 30 days or probably longer! And when i expressed my dismay at the longer wait, and that if I had known that , I might not have ordered it. He said , with a tone of flippancy," Well you won't get that good of price anywhere else." what good is good price if I can;t get what I PAID FOR?!

Forgive me for not briefing you on this earlier. Mine took 6 weeks to get in. I even got an UPS email stating that a shipping number had been generated. When I ordered they had just had a black Friday sale and were way backlogged. You're ordering in a time when everyone who has ever thought about getting an AR is buying one for fear of Obamination of gun laws. I know of one company that isn't even taking orders so they can get caught up. One in Florida is backed up until late March at best.

Yes, Palmetto State needs to hire more customer service reps to answer the phone but you have to remember that most people haven't been trained on weaponology enough to answer questions intelligently and accurately. Also, they won't hire just anyone to build the rifle whether you're getting a complete build or just a kit with the upper already assembled like I did. When I was in one of their shops in Columbia a service member that had just gotten done with a tour of duty was looking to get hired and they said that even though he had extensive experience (I heard him say he was military law enforcement) he would still have to be on a trial basis since he was not an all-out gunsmith.

My advice would be one of these... I'd wait it out and treat it as a genuine Christmas gift. If you are desperate for an AR get a Smith & Wesson model or other brand that's already assembled and ready to go. You will pay more. You could also get a stripped lower and a lower parts kit. Build the lower yourself and wait on an upper assembly to come. The lower is the only part that is serially controlled. Some people have lots of lowers (stripped and assembled) and are waiting on the funds and time to get the upper parts.

"Woo saaa." Good things come to those who wait. It will be worth it.

If PSA can't get you your rifle fast enough you can order on from other vendors. Spikes Tactical currently has their wait down to about 6 months. DPMS had some estimates wait times on their website of around 8 months. I've seen other places with wait times of over a year.

It isn't that they can't build rifles fast enough, they are struggling to get parts to build rifles fast enough.

Your only real option is to find an AR in a LGS or online store that has assembled rifles in stock. I doubt they will be as cheap.

I have had exceptionally good service from PSA but I haven't ordered a whole gun yet.

I have called to ask questions twice and they picked up quickly. I may have just been lucky. My family's business was a mail order business so I have little tolerance for some things and eternal patience for others.

I purchased a no-frills Bushmaster at my LGS for my first AR. I toyed with configurations and aftermarket products until I found out what worked for me.

Then I ordered two lowers from PSA. This new addiction is expensive.

Thanks for all the input so far. After reading comments, I never fully considered the timing of my order. i.e election results, Black Friday approaching, and Christmas is nearer. People buying more ar's and ar related equipment and components, uppers, lowers, triggers, parts kits, etc. Could mean parts and components are taking longer to get. I will post when I hear from PSA.

I got my PSA ar today! Feels great, looks awesome. ( it actually came in yesterday, but I couldn't get to my ffl dealer then )It took maybe a little longer than I had hoped, . Ordered on 3 November, arrived 6 December. Haven't been to a range yet. I will as soon as I can. Updates and some pics. Some people have already seen and handled it, everyone loved it, including some at a local gun shop ,where I was doing some scouting for a red dot.

Went to range , absolutely love this gun! So far I have only added one item; Bushnell TRS 25, 3 moa red dot. I did buy some c-products stainless steel mags . I attached two photos, I hope.Link RemovedLink Removed

I really need to get myself at least an AR lower... don't want to get caught short if they manage to get a ban through Congress, except all my LGS's are out of stock of ALL AR's and most of the sites I see online are too. =(
