Paint for sights

Anyone have suggestions for some type of paint or something for pistol sights for use in daytime?

You mean you want to paint them a color so they show up better like green or orange? Not sure what would be the best paint for that but I'm sure someone here has done it before.

the two most likely colors are white and black. shooters have been "smoking" their sights for many years. If you want white most shooters use white-out(for typing errors).

Wal-Mart has a paint pen that I used on my 1911. I bought opaque white, lightly sanded the front sight with 400 grit wet/dry sand paper, taped off the barrel and applied 3 light coats. The paint pens come in fine, medium and thick tips. i suggest the fine tip for better control.

My wife bought a Ruger LCR which has black on black sights.

She solved that problem by painting the front sight a bright neon red-orange color. It works great and hasn't come off in the past 6 months.

I am also curious as the last two guns I bought both have plane black sites(Ruger lcp and Kahr pm40). I wouldn't suggest white out, as i tried that and it wears off quickly. I have heard people using white fingernail polish. I have been researching it but haven't found a whole lot on the subject.

Please chime in if you have used Fingernail polish and how did it wear?

I took an old alarm clock, removed the hands, then remover the green glowing material. I put it on my Ruger GP100 and my SKS. Can see it real good in the daylight and at night as long as there is some light behind or above me. The reason I did this is one morning I was in a Deer stand an a deer was below me, I couldn't see my sights when looking down so I didn't shoot.. I did kill a Deer that morning at 65yds about 30 mins later, with my SKS.

I like the idea of using the material from the clock. Pretty cool.

Try it you'll like it. I can go out in the evening when the woods look black and see my sights, Just need a little bit of blue sky, or at night a porch light are something behind me. It works good.

Cabela's does sell some paint that will glow at night. Sort of like a glow popper used for fishing, if you shine a light on it glows. I ordered some to have if I ever need it on another gun. It was one of the things I ordered just in case. I probably will never use it, but with company's going out of business every day, why not get it. I thought about putting it on my Mossberg 500 PGO but instead installed Trituim sight.

Mary Kaye lady gave me some bright red-orange paint for my little LCP front sight. Came in a fancy little bottle. Works perfectly.

Nail polish works great as a temporary fix. Just about anything you "paint" on to your sights will wear off. Best thing to do would be to invest in a set of good quality after market sights. My personal favorite would be Trijicon tritium night sights. They work great in any level of lighting.

When the painted dot on the front site of my M&P fractured and fell out, it left quite a pocket. I decided to buy some glow-in-the dark powder, then I mixed it with clear nail polish and packed it in the hole. While it was still wet I dusted it with more powder. The results are mixed. By that I mean that in low level light it seems to be pretty darn good. In bright lighting, it has an off-white color and my old eyes would prefer a neon-green dot or plain bright white paint like the gun came with.

With Halloween coming round its the perfect time to get some of the flourescent nail polishes. I tried a bright glowing orange for the front dot and it only seemed to work good for me during daylight hours. At dusk it kind of faded away and was hard to see.

I use a bright white fingernail polish (on my sights of course:laugh:) It works great, daylight is shows very well, in low light I can see the sights in any light I can identify a target in.

As far as wear....I take it off and reapply every month or 2 while cleaning the pistol. Hoppes no 7 removes it easily.
