paddle vs belt

Anybody have a preference? I just got a 5.11 thumb drive and it can be carried either way. It's probably all just personal preference. I'm just curious about safety. Initially I like the paddle better but I'm worried about security.
Any help would be great. By the way it is a very cool holster. The thumb release is so much more natural than other locking mechanisms.

I actually prefer the paddle. When I'm working I usually have to remove the firearm and leave it in my truck. The paddle holster makes this fast and easy--however--in the last couple years I've been going with IWB more often

I've had both. And man I can tell you, when dad brought out the paddle I forgot all about the belt. And I NEVER did THAT again. Couldn't sit for a week IIRC. :crazy_pilot:

Funny Walt. hopdevil if I didn't need to remove the holster I would use the belt version. I have a couple of paddle holsters that hang on pretty well but come off easily when they need to. I like Blackhawk CQC, SafariLand and Fobus right now. On the Blackhawks I don't install the clips on the paddle because it's a bear to take off if you do.

I would like to find a decent paddle holster. I bought the Springfield paddle for my XD 9 and one of two things happens: either I yank my pants up to my ribcage and the gun stays holstered or I yank both the gun and the holster off of my belt and the gun stays holstered. The retention screw is all the way out. Plastic holsters don't make the grade.

I owned a paddle holster for my ruger lcp when I had it ... Best 20$ ever spent can be worn on any type of pants ... Was always tight and stayed in place .

I finally got the time to watch the video. To some extent I am envious of all you folks that live in an OC state. Living in Floriduh, I am relegated to concealment only when in public so I can't take advantage of all the cool OC goodies. I did some looking around for a paddle for around the house and property, where I can were OC and was taken with the Blackhawk Serpa series. I particularly like the materials available. It is offered in carbon fiber as well as the traditional vacu-formed thermal plastic and the finger releas/locking mechanism seems natural. The couple that I tried felt natural and smooth. But the purchase got trumped when my lovely lady came home with a beautiful leather belt slide from Ross Leather, so thats what I wear on my 'home pants'.

I didn't know 5.11 had a line of holsters. I was only familiar with their line of tactical clothing from a couple of guys at the range that were the gear. Thanks for the intro to new products.

Are you wearing a gun belt or just a civilian pants belt and is the belt cinched up or do you wear your pants down around your hips rather than at your waist? I've seen younger guys on the line wearing their pants at their hips and have the same trouble you describe. Something new gun owner/carriers don't take into consideration is the need to make some changes in wardrobe and the way we were them.

I had to learn to wear a little more baggier than normal, which is not good for me since I'm already "baggy"!

If you're only going to have one CCW then you might get several holsters for different situations. I have one of those doggie seat protectors in the extended cab portion of my truck. It basically forms a hammock from the back seat headrests to the front seat headrests and it conceals the map pockets behind the front seats from prying eyes. I find that a paddle holster easily clips to the map pocket behind the passenger seat and offers me quick and easy access to the gun. The Crossbreed also clips there as well. But the paddle holster isn't my first choice most days as they tend to print more on my frame during the warmer months.

Texas does not have open carry...yet. But I did buy a paddle holster, it has the finger release and it works very well. Kimber is very secure, but easily removed after pushing the finger button. It will work fine for winter carry as long as I keep the jacket/coat on and not have to take it off. I will also use it when hunting. For now, the N82 is doing a fine job.
Key for ANY holster is a GOOD belt.

I have a Uncle Mikes paddle holster that is awsome. It holds great, has great adjustment points and lets me pull the weapon easily.
