Paddle Holster

Maybe this has been beaten to death I don't know and am sorry if it has but, I am looking to get a paddle holster first for my XDS then possibly for others. Just want to know what people have and what is a good holster. I do know not to cheap out as I have in the past and learned the hard way. The only thing I can say is that I do like the Serpa I have for my Glock but, I like the leather holsters so, I ask what paddles do we own and the good the bad and the ugly is welcome. As I said I am not going to cheap out but, I am looking at about $100 to spend. I've heard good things about the Mernickle paddle and they call it a high draw honestly don't know what means. I don't know much about holsters. I carry my Glock in a serpa that's all I know and pretty much the only gun I carry right now. Thanks in advance

these ain't cheap, but they're good forever... I've had my 2 (one for 1911 and one for s&w 60-3 & a horsehide belt, for better than 15 years....excellent condition still after almost everyday use

Blameless...
I've seen this holster; besides its leather not wearing out, what are its strong point/weak points. I've been looking at the Kramer and I've been looking at the Galco CCP Concealed Carry Paddle (Galco holsters; Holsters; Gun holster, pistol holsters, western holsters, shoulder holsters, leather holster and Glock holsters) which allows you to adjust cant. I'm needing persuasion one way or the other to decide. I like that Kramer has an extra snap closure over the belt to keep the holster from coming off your pants (in case of a struggle), but I really like the adjustable cants from the Galco.

What I really need is to see both in person, but unfortunately no one carries both... heck, most places don't carry either. Any help you can give Blameless would be great.

Hey wolf, I don't own either of those makers/models, but I do own an Aker Flatsider, and I would give my left nut to be able to reduce the angle of cant with that thing. I think I got it slightly used for like $40 bucks or thereabouts, and it currently sells for between $65 - $75, but I'd gladly pay the ~$120 for that adjustable cant Galco if they made one for either of my EDC weapons, which they don't.

I can't overstate how much I would prefer an adjustable cant. You may set it and forget it, and never adjust it again after finding your sweet spot, but you get one with a cant that you can't carry comfortably with, and it's gonna sit in the been-there-done-that drawer till the end of time. Well, or until you sell it, which I might do with my Aker here shortly.

Anyway, that's my .40¢ worth.

As to the OP, I'm 6'-6" and go about 255 - 260. I wear a couple or three different styles of holsters on a regular basis. One is a snap-loop OWB belt holster, a Bianchi Snap-Lok for my full size .45, and the other a High Noon Holsters synthetic "leather" holster for my CZ 2075 RAMI that I just looked at their site to link to for you, but which it appears they don't make anymore. They do still make the leather model though. You can see that here if you'd like.

I wear a Crossbreed Super-Tuck most often with my RAMI. I could tolerate one for my .45, but have just never gotten around to ordering one. There are a lot of copy-cats of the Crossbreed out there nowadays, and you can get some of them for around half the price. Just search on "Hybrid Holster" and most of them will come up.

I also wear a shirt holster, which is the most comfortable by far, is accessible even in a car or when seated anywhere else, and the one I use is ambidextrous, has Velcro holsters, mag carriers and accessory pouches, and buying the shirt, a holster and a pouch/mag carrier won't set you back more than about $40 bucks. The one I use is called a Link Removed but there are several out there with more or less the same design. A lightweight button-down shirt for cover garment gives all the concealment you'll ever need. The only negative is that it's a cross-draw platform, and a lot of folks don't like them because you have to sweep the muzzle a minimum of 45° from your side to out in front of you when you draw. If you're comfortable and confident with your firearms handling practices though, it's a very good, reliable and inexpensive option.

This is the way I have been leaning and for that very reason, adjustable cant. If I do end up getting the Galco, I will have to see if there is need to add some sort of snap closure over the belt. I have a friend that owns the Galco, but he's 5'11", and 125 lbs... whereas I'm 6'1" and 225. He wears his belts very tight, because he can't find pants that fit well for his oddly lean frame. I'm a bit of a paranoid when it comes to can my gun fall out or be taken. I'm sure I could find a leather maker to add the snap closures if I feel it can come off my waistband too easily. Add that to the fact that the Kramer is $50 more, I've just paid for the extra snap closures if I feel I need them.

Thanks for your insight Blues.

Yes I want the adjustable cant but, don't know if it is possible because I want the paddle to be leather for comfort. Is there a manufacturer that makes an adjustable leather paddle?

The paddle itself will always be either metal or hard plastic that has spring action to it to grip the waistline and belt of your britches. Whether it's covered in leather or not, there will be "cleats" molded (in plastic) or cut and bent outwards (in metal) that protrude out away from your body to aid in gripping your clothes. The side of the paddle that faces your body will be as smooth as a baby's butt no matter what the base material is. If you found the "perfect" rig except that the paddle wasn't covered in leather, it would be an easy and inexpensive fix to just buy a piece of leather, cut it to the shape of the back of the paddle, and glue it with some industrial strength glue that won't weaken from sweat or ambient moisture. Or, if it's important to you that the whole paddle be covered in leather, you could take it to a leather-smith and have them sew top and bottom pieces together around the paddle, but they're going to have to know something about how to allow those cleats to extend outward far enough to still have gripping power.

The paddle holster I have that I described above has a plastic paddle. It provides one of the most comfortable ways to carry that I've ever used, except for the forward cant being too extreme for my tastes. The plastic has never been a problem as far as comfort goes for me though, for whatever that might be worth.

The thing is with a paddle holster, it is too easy for someone to reach up from behind you and pull your gun and holster off your belt, since most have belt clip holders.
Here is a place with a large offering of holsters. The Holster Store - Gun Holsters They are located in Florida, make their own products of US materials. Prices are affordable, shipping is fast.

What do you have?

Anybody know anything about Wild Bill's Concealment? I can get a belt and mag holder for $130 and it looks like you can adjust the cant. One thing I don't understand is they call it a level 1-5. What does that mean? I mean I know it has to do with retension but, I thought it was either 1 or a 2 etc. Now it could mean they can make it whatever I want but I see no option for that. It doesn't show the thumb break for level 2 confused. It's the first one the fusion

I posted in your other forum post about this but I figured I'd post it here too with some additional info.

I was using a Fobus paddle holster when I had my Bersa. I'm using a Bianchi Carrylok belt holster now for my Ruger SR40c. I love it and they make a paddle version of it so I'm going to pick one up. That way I've got a couple of ways to carry with the same retention system so my muscle memory operating the locking mechanism is the same.
The nice thing about this Bianchi Carrylok Paddle holster is that it's adjustable for cant and height and can also be worn cross draw or strongside. They're also $50-80 depending on where you get it.
High-level retention + high-grade leather + adjustable cant + adjustable height = 100% Sold

It actually wasn't my post and I didn't want to steal from the person who's post it was by changing the subject line so I started my own.

On that webpage, in a paragraph right above the holsters, they explain their "level" system. It refers to how concealable their holsters are and it is their own personal grading system.

All right I have been looking at a lot of holsters and without being able to try them it's a crap shoot for comfort. Can someone give me an idea what a high riding holster vs a low riding holster. What would be more comfortable when sitting etc?
