Own a G23. Worth getting a G27?

As I live in the "great" state of Illinois, I don't have much experience in concealed firearms. Now that Wisconsin has moved in the right direction, I'm finally going to have the chance to exercise my rights. With that said, I apologize for the lack of knowledge I have here. I have a Glock 23 but am concerned with how it will conceal. I have an opportunity to get a Glock 27 at a decent price but don't know if it is worth it. For those of you who have experience carrying both,is there a big difference between how the 23 and 27 carry/print? If there is no substantial difference, do you have any recommendations as to others that will work better when wearing lighter clothing? Any help is appreciated.

Need to shoot them both and see how you like the grip. 23's grip length is longer then the 27. Both 40's so power is good. Concealing depends on lots of variables such as holster, clothing, season, etc. I went with the 23 for the handling of the gun and I can easily carry and conceal it without any problem. I also have a 22 as well and it works with all of my holsters. I also recently bought an ankle holster for the 23 and it works good as well. Good luck.

I have and carry a G19 which is the same in every respect as the G23 except caliber. I live in the Florida Keys and haven't had too much of a problem concealing it.

Grip was way to short on the 27. I carry MY 23 and only the 23. I weigh 150lbs and have no problem concealing it. Gotta get a real good IWB holster. I love my Galco!!

It's ~ 3/4 long and taller G23 vs G27. Go grip the G27 it is smaller if you can grip it it maybe better? If you find the G23 a bit hard to concel then IMO the G27 is worth it. Most likely any other small gun is going to be hard to grip. To me the fat handle makes it easier to grip. Go rent one or hold one in the store. Only you can decide. I have both and carry the G23 in winter and G27 in summer or if I'm inside light clothes I carry the G27. Some times a 380 instead. The best part it's an excuse to buy another gun if you have the ca$h :f

What CC permit will you use to carry in Wisconsin ? Illinois doesn't have CC, and at the moment Wisconsin doesn't honor Ill.

I have a G36 gen4. I don't have any issues with the recoil, but it is only a 6+1. That being said I would certainly hope that I could bring any situation I am in to an end with 7 .45 rounds. The gun hides great in a IWB...It usually rides @2 o'clock in a Kholster

I'm 150lbs 5'7 and can conceal my g23 in summer garb. All it took was the right holster. Supertuck.

Bought the g23 before I knew I loved it. Best gun I've owned. Almost traded for the 27 and then realized they are about the same size concealed. Go 23. U will love it. Gen 3.

I wouldnt waste your money on a gun that is only half an inch shorter in length and nearly one inch shorter in height. I can effectively conceal my full size G22. If you buy a good holster and wear appropriate clothing you can easily conceal your midsize 23.

I carry a G23. I have no problem with printing especially now that the weather is good for wearing a casual coat and a heavy one for winter. I carry OWB during this time of the year. But then, I OWB even in summer and just wear a light vest if I can during the other seasons of the year. Easier access for me than IWB. And I am 117 lbs. Every now and then when I go to our events interstate I would carry IWB. It actually depends on your clothing. It is actually annoying for me to carry IWB but I doubt how long I can get away with it. For me there are no safe place, every place I go I have to be aware that there will be a nut somewhere who would want to harm me and mine.

Thanks for your insight. I have shot the 27 and like it. But... the only reason I would buy it is because it is easier to conceal. However, if I'm not gaining much in concealment, it won't be worth it. But you are right, it is a great excuse for another gun.

Right now I have a Utah and Florida is on the way. I'm sure once (if) Illinois gets smart, I will have to take a series of courses that rivals my college courses; internship included.

That's where I'm at right now. If it isn't going to be a big difference, it may not be worth it... I have a Galco KingTuk and can conceal the 23 in pretty much everything except for some t-shirts and when I'm wearing dress shirts tucked in.

I appreciate everyone's feedback on this. It sounds as if it is going to be more of a trial and error thing over a "what do you recommend" as everyone's body type and situation is different. I will let you know what I decide.

Like I said before if you have the $$ and can grip it right the the G27 concels better than the G23. And the size does make a difference. But the best thing you can do holster your G23 and see for yourself. The G23 is easy to ccw also. You may want something thinner?

I thought more about all what was said here and when I would need something smaller than my 23 and decided that the 27 might still be too big for those situations. So I ordered a Ruger LCP instead. It won't be as comfortable but will do the job. Now to get to the range and practice. Thanks all for the input.

I have a G19 and Son a G27. I have carried daily for 30 years. Not enough difference for me to spend on a G27/26. Start out by carrying the G23 to see how it works before blowing your money. You could get stuck being able to only carry one specific gun anyway. Knowing Illinois, (born & raised) they may restrict your carry to one specific gun like some States IF they ever get a permit.

Went the same route here and bought the LCP for ccw, it conceals easily in summer clothes.
It also makes the 9mm and up look and feel like bricks. You'll like it.
The medium/full frame guns are in the car/boat/night-stand, LCP is in the pocket.

Good to hear. Should be here on Friday. Now I just have to pick a nice holster to carry it in. Think I will go for a pocket holster and an iwb

I have both, a 27 and a 23, and carry the 23 the majority of the time, I have several pistols, and unless your looking for the absolute smallest glock to carry not that a Glock is small to begin with) go eith the 23, the 27 grip takes some getting used to and can be very difficult to control especialy under tense circumstances, muzzle jump makes follow up shots tough, the 23 conceals very well, only thing is around here open carry is leagal, not a lot do, but nobody really seems to care much, as suggested, if you can shoot both, 50 bucks says you will choose the 23,

Funny thing about the G27/G26 vs G23/G19 if you search the forums you will get close to 50-50 split.Istill favor my G27 and shoot it as well as my G23. But the only reason I have both is I got the G27 first. Then I wanted a G23 for the rails.
