Outback makes on-duty officer leave

Well we had a first tonight.... while I was at work tonight (in uniform) I stopped by Outback Steakhouse to eat supper with my wife. I was approached by the manager and asked if I would put my gun in my truck. I let her know that I couldn’t because I was in uniform. She then went and made a call and came back and we were asked to leave because Outback is a gun free zone.
Note: I don’t blame the manager... but this is ridiculous and we will never go back there ever again.

What is this country coming to? A uniformed Law Enforcement Officer who is sworn to protect and serve the public, is refused service because they have a firearm! I am disgusted and have no other words!!!

Outback has contacted us and has apologized for the incident. There was another customer that was “scared for her life” who was seated across from us. This customer also stated that she was afraid because “police are shooting people” and this customer went on to demand to be escorted to her vehicle out of fear of being shot.

Well I'm happy to say that I'll never give Outback another penny!

A place that caters to a ridiculous snowflake over a uniformed LEO?!? No thanks.

I'd be happy to cook much better food for you and your wife if you are ever in the Philly area! Unlike Outback, I use more than just salt when I cook :)

So you don't blame the manager, and Outback has apologized on a corporate level, but you're still not ever going back there? In essence, there's nothing Outback could do to resolve your disgust, right?

Now you know how the rest of open carrying America feels. I just don't go into anti-gun establishments, but if I ever did just to make a point about the fact that they are anti-gun, I'd simply video-record my visit and their request that I leave, and after I make a statement about their anti-gun status for the record, I'd slide out the door never to return and then post the video on YouTube so that everyone could benefit from the proof that they are indeed anti-gun. I figure denying them my patronage is all the message I personally need to send them though, so that will likely never happen.

This really isn't an open carry issue though, is it? It's more a LEO Encounters issue, only from the opposite perspective than most of the rest of us would ever be posting from. You're mad because your badge and costume don't give you rights that the rest of us don't have. Boo-freakin'-hoo.

What crawled up your behind today? Or are you always this polite when you weren't even provoked?

I don't give business to anti gunners with signs. Makes it really easy to decide on where my money gets spent. By our laws here they could only ask me to leave anyway which I would gladly do if I inadvertently walked into a business where I missed the sign. There's about a zero percent chance they'd know i was carrying but that's not the point.

If a business, which would likely call the police immediately if they had an unruly patron or a robbery, chooses to not allow police in under any other circumstances, I'd be inclined to tell them to stuff it as customer. I did not know Outback was a gun free zone but I don't eat there either. That's just hypocrisy IMO. That customer needs a therapist. They would also call a cop if they needed help so their whole act, their safe space behavior, and "look at me" attitude is laughable. They are in a restaurant full of people for Pete's sake.

If I get pulled over by a LEO, I get more wary than I ever have in my life though. Most of it has to do with my auto license plate being linked to my legal carry status by databases, some of it has to do with younger cops being less than well trained, and in some cases I think police think they're rights usurp my own and I have seen that myself. I have family that are LEOs (they carry their duty weapon 100% of the time in and out of uniform) and though my above points are not the case with them, they have told me anecdotally that their colleagues have a fear of citizens legally carrying firearms [emoji849][emoji19]. There's plenty of real criminals not carrying for good reasons and I resent being put in the same category.

The LEO's at my club all seem like good guys but it's sort of a controlled environment and I'm not pulled over to the side of a road by my lonesome either. I wouldn't go to an Outback based solely on their gun policy and your decision as a LEO based on your experience is your decision and I get it. I ate there once when I was in Guam and don't feel like I am missing much. Regardless, they should let all legal carriers of firearms in.

The truth is neither polite nor impolite - it simply is. Nothing I said was an opinion that I lied about or exaggerated in any way. I told the truth as I know it.

My hemorrhoids are flarin' up a bit, but other than that, nothin' untoward happening in or out of my behind. I'd prefer if you weren't thinkin' about my behind though. That would be the polite thing to do. LOL

You assumed he is just mad because his badge didn't give him a special pass. That's not a fact. You truly are a sad little person aren't you. Have a little respect for humans.

I truly hope you experience something in your life that helps you take a step back in life and realize that your opinions are not facts. LEO's can also be firearms & 2A enthusiasts. So get a life and stop acting like the hemorrhoids on your "behind". You are the reason forums get a bad name and you stop people from sharing their experiences for fear of some loser belittling their thoughts. LEOs are allowed to be upset about a firearms related experience too, you aren't special.

Didn't you have a mother to teach that if you don't have something nice to say, say nothing at all? If not, I just shared the advice, heed it.

If LEO’s are not allowed because of an insecure customer sincerely felt threatened, then maybe all civilians who fear the the presence of a gun should have to register as a “do not sent any LEO to save me data base”. Also any business who post “NO GUNS ALLOWED” LEO’s should not respond to any type of 911 calls.

Problem solved!!

I am not the one who was asked to leave. I simply posted this to make everyone aware of what Outback did. In an update from a local news station, Outback is kissing the officer's ass over this, and issued an apology to the officer. Corporate has also made a public statement that the manager made a mistake. The only mistake the manager made, was in not asking the snowflake customer to sit down, shut up and mind her own damn business. Needless to say, the parking lot at this particular Outback has been rather empty all day. If it stays empty long enough, either they will drop the anti-gun BS, or they close. As there is a lot of old money in Cleveland, and a LOT of permit holders there, from past experience, their doors will close way before the sign comes down.

I think we all thought you had written the OP in the first person. Oh well, you made a good point. There's a Super Bowl today so we know Cleveland won't be doing much anyway.....jk[emoji847]. Darn, that was early morning with day four of the flu me. Not a good look, back to bed.

I do have respect for humans. That's why I stay constantly skeptical and suspicious of cops. Link Removed

I truly hope you experience something in your life that helps you take a step back in life and realize that your opinions are not facts.

You're confused. I purposely described them as my opinions to guard against being accused of relating them as facts. For future reference, the English language makes the word "opinion" excluded for being a synonym of the word "fact." I said I told the truth of my opinions, and I absolutely did. I would point out that I did exactly what the OP did in that regard, told the truth of his opinions that is, but now we find out that the original post wasn't even the thoughts of the original poster, but a copy & paste job from who knows where. I was completely truthful in relating my own opinions in my own words. The OP, not so much.

LEO's can also be firearms & 2A enthusiasts.

This is absolutely true, they can be enthusiasts. They cannot, however, be 2A advocates. Or are you under the impression that a 2A advocate can also arrest people and ruin their lives based on laws that infringe on the right to keep and bear? Again, you are confused if you do think that. "They're just doing their jobs" went away as a valid defense in the Nuremberg Trials in the 1940s. Either "shall not be infringed" means what it says, or it doesn't. I think it does. Cops quite obviously, don't.

So get a life and stop acting like the hemorrhoids on your "behind". You are the reason forums get a bad name and you stop people from sharing their experiences for fear of some loser belittling their thoughts. Never claimed to be special. Just truthful. I'll add to that that I am also thoughtful about, adherent and educated to, the meanings of the Constitution. Our government and the agencies and individuals who enforce its usurping laws, have been running counter to those meanings on scores of Articles, Sections, clauses, paragraphs, words and punctuation marks within that document for over 200 years. That is not simply an opinion, but a provable fact. If I'm the reason that forums get a bad name, then the people who agree with that notion are the sheep who couldn't care any less about the Constitution or the rights it was designed to protect for perpetuity. Might want to crack open a book or three, or transcripts of the congressional debates before the Constitution was ratified, or the Federalist Papers, or Link Removed to William Smith in 1787 in which the phrase, "Tree of Liberty" was coined. You'll find that fawning over the henchmen of government was not supposed to be the norm for this society, and that notion is indeed special.

Didn't you have a mother to teach that if you don't have something nice to say, say nothing at all? If not, I just shared the advice, heed it.

Yes, I had a mother. No, she never taught me to stifle my opinions just because some government employee might get their feelings hurt by hearing them. Like I said at the beginning, boo-freakin'-hoo.

Here's a quick lesson for you. I offer it in good faith that you might better-understand my first post in this thread. It is not a lesson based on opinion, but on hard, cold facts distilled down to their simplest and easiest-to-understand bottom line. Instead of barking out orders that you "heed it," totally disrespecting your freedom to form and believe in the prudence of your own opinions as you yourself see fit, I simply put it out here for you to consider, and hope that you will:

And in Tennessee ?? , very shocking but im assuming its countrywide at that particular restaurant chain unless it was local pressure by some group in the TN area there that brought it about

That statement would only be 100% true if cops had a duty to enforce they law. Cops, quite obviously, don't have a duty to enforce the law.

Cops, quite obviously, don't have a duty to enforce the law.

Say what???

Sheriff Deputy and school resource officer Scot Peterson cowered outside the building at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, for over 4 minutes while a crazed murderer inside the building executed students and teachers. Instead of going to prison for gross negligence in the non-performance of his duties resulting in the death of 17 people, he will retire with his retired pay and benefits. As I said, cops, quite obviously, don't have a duty to enforce the law.

I was referencing your statement, "Cops, quite obviously, don't have a duty to enforce the law" 2/5/2018 (post #14) that has nothing to do with officer Scot Peterson on 2/14/2018. I repeat, say what???

The Failure of Law Enforcement Officers to Enforce the Law

The courts have ruled in several past cases that cops have no duty to enforce the law, resulting in immunity from legal action when they do fail to enforce the law. Why do you think no lawsuits have been filed against the police who did not act to stop the school shooting in Parkland? Part of the reason is because the courts have already ruled that police officers cannot be held liable for the inaction. They can only be held liable when they perform a negligent action that results in injury to another person. Failure to act is not a negligent action. And in some states, such as Washington, the protection of police officers goes even further - the victim of the officer's actions must prove that the officer acted in malice, negligence is not enough.

Interesting, thanks. One more reason not to dial 911.

Who eats at chain restaurants in the first place? Haven't been to an Outback, Olive Garden, Chilli's, Cracker Barrel, etc., in many years.
