This is not a gun related topic so to speak but I think our childrens security has been addressed numerous times on this site.
Since the the Newtown Shooting various schools around the country have been very negetive about security/ armed security in our schools to protect our children from this sort of violence. I understand that some folks are just against guns.
In North Carolina and specifically in my area there was a threat of snow, sleet, freezing rain which in fact we have gotten, and people here have no idea how to drive in it, most of them anyways. Turns things to gridlock here. The schools in the county and surrounding counties chose to open but would close three hours early in front of the bad weather. Closing the schools before the bad weather did not happen!!!!! I was on the road and snow sleet started by 9:30 and traffic on the highway was already backing up.
It just made me think that I can't beleive the schools opened for just 2 or three hours. Then it dawned on me......................Money
Schools don't want to pay for security for the kids because it will cost them money.
Schools don't want to close due to weather because they will lose federal funding or have to have make up weather days which costs them money.
So......as of 11:00AM today I have heard of one accident involving a school bus due to wet and slick conditions that was taking children home becuse they closed earlier than expected and they were wrong about the weather, and the day is not done!!!!!! Hopefully there won't be any injuries.......
Seems like our local government risked our childrens lives in bad/potentially dangerous conditions to save money. But then again this was not a AR15 or AK47 so not the same thing so probably will barely make the local news..
