Ottawa County (MI) Deputy parks in handicap spot, gets off with warning….

Sheriff Deputy "unknowingly" parked in the handicap spot during his lunch break, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff. The Sheriff was made aware of the occurrence after a civilian saw the unit illegally parked and sent a photo to a local media outlet, which then contacted the Sheriff. In the meantime, yet another deputy saw what had happened and told the offending deputy to move the vehicle - but did not cite him.

Any civilian doing this would have received a citation. These are the same people who tell us they have been highly trained to be situationally aware, and that's why THEY get to carry guns and the average citizen can't be trusted to do so. I'm not buying it.

I've never seen better painted and visible handicap insignia. So, not only do we have an arrogant Sheriff Deputy who thinks the law applies to those pesky non-LEO citizens but a liar as well.
Lying about anything is serious with anybody but particularly serious with those who seek to have authority over the public.

The bigger problem is that the Sheriff is backing him up when he should be making an example of him, and asking that the strip mall "... install vertical signs, in addition to the markings on the pavement." These parking schemes are normal, but he's trying to shift the blame onto the store owner.

Of course, this is the same sheriff that has instructed city and county employees who see open carriers coming into their offices (perfectly legal in MI) to notify the sheriff's dept. so they can roll units to "insure" that the carrier is truly carrying legally.
