orange county cow?

Hey folks
My employer I'd trying to talk me into moving back to Calif after 15 years of living elsewhere. The gun laws are one of my primary reasons for hesitation, but for my own info, how hard is it to aquire a cow in Orange county compared to Riverside or SB counties?

Why would you even consider California, in my opinion it is one of the worst states to live in. Economy is horrible and will continue to be so for many years. Real Estate is way over priced and worst of all they trample all over second amendment rights. Some areas are better than others but in my opinion, if your not forced to move there I wouldn't.

Getting a CCW would be the least of my gun-related concerns. I wouldn't live there because they register guns.

Just the cost of living increase is more than enough reason not to go but with the stance on RKBA issues I'd pass.

As someone who lived in Socal for 12 years and only recently moved back to the land of the free I would say don't move unless you have to. Now If you you do decide to move there you can't have any firearms or ammunition feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds just bringing them to the state is a felony. You have to register all owned firearms within so many days of moving there. Now to ccw it is extremely difficult to get a permit anywhere in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia but some counties are easier than others. Orange is one of the better ones especially if the sheriff is up for reelection. Riverside isn't good the closer you get to L.A. or San Diego the harder it is. Now I'm not sure if by SB you ment Santa Barbra which is Impossible or San Bernadino which is one of the easiest. but no mater where it will require lots of training, money and time. It also helps If you are a professional bodyguard or cary lots of money or Jewels For work. Hope this helps and good luck.

Not if they are disassembled. They are then considered nothing more than parts.

Orange is one of the better ones especially if the sheriff is up for reelection.

They have a new sheriff, a witch from Los Angeles who has recalled half the permits that were issued before her with the expectation of more.

Riverside isn't good the closer you get to L.A. or San Diego the harder it is.

Actually Riverside isn't any closer to L.A. than Orange County, they both border L.A. County. My understanding is Riverside is almost "shall issue". Calguns.net has better information.

Don't move, if you don't have to.
CA has a high cost of living. So, unless your salary is being raised to compensate for the higher cost of living, it's not worth it to move to CA. (if you are not being paid minimum of $70k a year, it's not worth it. because less than that and you'll be barely living from pay check to pay check due to the higher cost of living)

As for firearms...
You can not bring any prohibited weapons.
Prohibited weapons would be "assault weapons", Destructive Devices, Machine Guns, Short Barrel Rifles, Short Barrel Shotguns and Noise Suppressors.

You can not import any large capacity (11+ round) magazines into CA.
You can legally import magazine parts, which you can use to make permanent 10 round magazines or keep as parts & never assemble them while in CA.

All handgun(s) you bring to CA must be registered with CA DOJ.
Currently (changes on 01-01-2014) rifles, shotguns and other firearms do not have to be registered.

In order to get a carry permit, you have to apply to the CLEO of the city/county you live in.
Los Angeles County Sheriff, Orange County Sheriff, Ventura County Sheriff and San Diego County Sheriff = near impossible to obtain a carry permit.
Riverside County Sheriff = better chance than the above counties, but you still need a viable "good cause" to get a carry permit.
San Bernardino County Sheriff = will issue for "personal protection", but due to budgetary concerns (county going broke, no money for LE to do background checks for permits), it may take you 2-3 years before you get a permit issued to you.

If you move to Riverside County, expect a 1-2 hour commute to Orange County.
If you move to San Bernardino County expect a 1.5-2.5 hour commute to Orange County.

Thanks for the input, all. As a native of Local, I'm very aware of how scrappy it is, and I'm leaning away from going but having most of my family and a potential ly very large pay increase make it a possibility.

Is there any movement in the state toward making the gun laws more sensible

There are several lawsuits going forward. Best source on gun laws and lawsuits is calguns.net. Since the idiots in Sacramento "outlawed" unloaded open carry the "excuse" that Kalifornia had to limit CCW has gone away and a lawsuit has been filed. There are several lawsuits against various counties for failure to issue.

Ventura County by the way has a new sheriff and a fairly liberal policy on issuing permits. I had one in Ventura County but just moved to Orange County.

Some movement in the Courts.
But, the Courts take a long time. So, won't see any beneficial changes until the next 5-10 years.

The odds are far better on getting mercy from the IRS than getting me back in The Peoples Republik Of Kalifornia. The best view of Kalifornia is the one in the rear view mirror.
