Opinions on the Taurus PT 738?

Looking for one of these for my wife to carry. Anything good or bad will be appreciated.

I have one and I love it! Just so you know, being compact, it has a bit of a kick to it.
I bought it for my wife but she thinks it kicks harder than my 9mm!
Great little gun but put rounds down range before you carry it. Some are trouble, some ,(like mine), needed a little love and care first.
After five hundred plus rounds through mine, I trust it to go bang every time.

I have one but it's very finicky with ammo and jams a lot. I've got about 400 rounds thru it. Winchester PDX1 seems to work ok but I don't trust it. I need to send it in to Taurus and have them look at it. When I chamber the first round it will often hang and need an extra push on the slide for it to load. Seems the round is hangup on the ramp. I've heard this to be a common problem on some of them but once fixed they supposedly run great. I got mine last year brand new for $179 so you can't beat the price. I've seen them as much as $325 at gun shows. Charles is right out kicks quite a bit because it's so light and small. My wife hates it because she can't get a good grip on it and his her hand. She loves her Colt 1911 45.Have your wife try one out before you buy is my suggestion.

Sorry about all the typos. I'm typing from my phone and it thinks it knows the words I want to type better than I do.

I've owned one for about four years and really like it. It has a little bit of recoil to it b/c of it's lack of size/weight but it's manageable, I would also recommend magizine grip extentions... they help the hold during firing. Mine took a little bit of break-in but wasn't unreliable in the slightest... so far, it feeds FMJs and JHPs well. The build quality is pretty good and the finish is holding up fine. It's as accurate as it needs to be for its size, it's meant for point-blank to about 5yrds (realistically). I usually carry it at the 1300 position, IWB and that works well for me. It is very concealeable and I'm sure you can find many places for it to go. You may want to get an inner tube or something simular to put around the grip to aid the hold when firing, especially if your hand is sweating.

Bottom line: Yes, I would recommend it to a friend.

I bought a 738 tcp about 4 months ago. Took it out of the box, cleaned it and then proceeded to put 150 rounds thru it with no problems at all. One week later put another 175 rounds thru and not one problem. Used wwb, Remington and federal self defense h.p. Great little gun and fits the wife's hand well.
