Open carrying this morning and LEO"s

Couldn't sleep so I wanted/needed another pack of smokes and coffee, didn't have coffee in the house.

I recently picked up the XDm .40 Smith and Wesson. I used the paddle holster that came with the pistol with a pair of jeans and a black turtle neck sweater being sure to tuck the sweater in on the strong side so the pistol was exposed (open carry) Proceeded to drive up the nearest BP station & 2430 hrs. No one in the parking lot other than the clerk outside smoking a cigarette himself.

I proceed into the BP station and the clerk follows me in (which has seen me a hundred times) and we start having a conversation about CCW and open carry, firearms etc.

I decide I want to relax and just sip my coffee right there at the coffee preparation table and shoot the shit for a while with the clerk. We even talked about LEO"s might react if they came in for their shift coffee with me standing there with a pistola on my hip.

Suddenly it happens, a patrol car pulls up and then back ups to the gas pump. They both walk in, they say "Hello" to both of us. Neither one of them had the situaltional awareness to notice that I was standing their with a coffee and a pistola on my hip. Amazing !!! :sarcastic: Trust me they didn't even look, nor where they aware of my pistol.

They checked out with their bottle waters and drove off. :to_pick_ones_nose:

No SA what so ever.

Maybe they did notice, but opted to be "good" officers and simply leave you alone as they should (assuming that OC is perfectly legal in this case).

No need for the no SA comments. If I were in your shoes I'd consider this an excellent OC encounter with LEO.

You'll be amazed what people in general notice and make no mention of. Glad you had an uneventful OC experience.

They had no clue. Trust me, I watch everyones eyes and they never gave me so much as a glance at that early morning hour.

I still say no SA, none, nada, ziip.

If they did notice, then I sure didn't see their eyes in my direction and watched them all the way in the store. I was in plain view of the glass.

If they did, good on them for not even bringing it up. They where from a neighboring city also that is known to be real prickss at times.

Good experience ? Yes, no SA ? You betcha.

Despite their constant lectures about their importance and superhuman abilities, cops are just people and do get caught in situations where they're not paying attention. It could be complacence or fatigue, but it is sometimes fatal given their line of work. If they didn't ID you as carrying they need to find other work.

Having said that, I open carried for years before moving to NV and finally getting a CCW. I'm not particularly careful to make sure I don't print, or otherwise let the presence of my firearm become known. Often there are groups of cops eating at same the establishments (where alcohol is served -- it's Vegas!) I do. I've never been stared at, approached, or asked if I had a permit. They have always completely ignored me; that's just the way I want it. The only way they could avoid realizing there is an armed patron sitting near them is to not look. Of course, they may be too distracted by the ass-kissing cop lovers who constantly interrupt them with fawning inanities.

It's great entertainment!

They like you had not had their coffee yet!

They like you had not had their coffee yet! They probably just wanted to get in and get out as quickly as possible. Lack of coffee has that affect on the average human being!

If the clerk was standing with his hands in the air or lying on the floor then perhaps they would have noticed. :sarcastic:

Perhaps someone secretly replaced their regular coffee with Folgers Crystals. I know that can throw even good people way off...

Kidding...

I would consider it a good encounter...

Peace..

Heh, I think Ill start to OC from time to time, I do somewhat already in uniform [not at work] when Im out and about, people tend to not even notice, or just think its the norm with a man in a security outfit to have an OC pistol. Either way, good LEO encounter.
