Aaaaaand here comes another pissing contest

You might want to start looking for data to support your claim (I.E. news stories in which a person who was open carrying was attacked first) because you are going to be asked to provide them.

I too have open carried in the military. While I agree that it isn't all that it is cracked up to be, I will say this: it is about vigilance and situational awareness. Initial perception of a hostile threat and target identification are critical, and should be assessed swiftly. Engaging a weapon from an open carry position to respond to a threat is easier, and less conspicuous. Body mechanics, fluidity of motion, facial features, etc.; all of these aspects come into play. Military doctrine does state to eliminate the most hostile threat first. I contend that a swift response to the threat will be unexpected. Most criminals don't take the time to survey the scene beforehand, instead relying on shock and surprise.

I am confused. Are there people in the Military who carry concealed? Wouldn't the uniform kind of give it away??

(just kidding)

Thank you for your service to our great country Sir.

Please provide cites and/or links to actual factual incidents where the open carrier was "shot first". Please bear in mind that even if you can find a few those few must be balanced against the thousands of open carry hours in just Arizona where open carry has been practiced by many many people for freaking DECADES... which should make your search for those actual factual incidents really easy.

Oh yes.. bear in mind that if open carriers were being "shot first" the anti gunners would be constantly harping on it and the media would be presenting a multitude of those cites and/or links to all those incidents. So since the anti gunners and the media are both pretty much silent on open carriers being shot first apparently you have an inside line to some facts they don't know about ... so...

Show us the facts to support your statement.

Good hell..... if you are trying to start a fight make it interesting. Say that not only is OCing a bad idea but 10 times worse if it's with a pansy glock instead of a manly 1911. Or that if you OC a highpoint it will randomly discharge because only revolvers are safe. Or work religion in somewhere..... maybe it's a divine right to CC but OCing was introduced by the KKK to prevent minorities from voting.

If you are going to be a troll.... try to be a good one.

In the military, it is your uniform and your rank insignia that carries the most weight of authority.

The 45ACP or 9mm only serves as a reminder of the potency of the UCMJ, as far as handguns go.

As far as rifles go, an infantryman must be ever vigilant to spot the enemy, and then he must shoot straighter than him.

In the military, the CID who are DOD police are CCW and not OC. Everyone else is OC.

If you were a "smart" criminal, you'd realize for ever one OCer, there's likely 2-3 Concealed carriers around, and you'd be better off finding a safer target. But, as has already been pointed out, the idea of a "smart criminal" is kind of silly.

FYI, I OCed in the military too, but it was when we were in the field, and out there, EVERYONE had guns. DOH!!

Clearly written by some one who has never actually been in the millitary

Not doubting you, but out of curiosity how would you accurately described the military investigation branch?

No kidding. CID are ARMY investigators. Military personnel who perform duties similar to NCIS, which are non-military Naval investigators. Wikipedia would have given him a better answer.

Does anyone expect this troll to actually come back?
I don't expect any reply but I think it is imperative to always address any of the myths about open carry immediately and nip them in the bud to stop them from being continued to be spread.
