open carry WalMart

first i want to say that i am not anti cop, just pro-rights. the main thrust of my post was that LEOs should never get to thinking everybody is just a scum bag they havn't caught yet. we have had a few of those in my area all ready.

i have found that 20% of LEOs genuinely want to help people. 70% are just on the job, or just likes the prestige they enjoy. 10% are really assholes that want to push people around. lets hope the 90% will keep the latter in check

Your numbers seem about right. The 20% maybe low. If you meet the 70% off the clock you'll see most are just regular guys trying to make a living. No better or worst than the population they're drawn from. It's the unmarried ones you have to watch out for. The ones that have worked 5-6 different towns or cities and been divorced 2-3 times. They're the wolves in sheepdog uniforms. ymmv jmho

LEOs do not deal with a lot of bottom feeders in their job. they deal with citizens, yes, a few (a very few) of these citizens do deplorably things. but remember almost all of them are decent people, that are in bad situations.

You clearly don't know much about law enforcement. Most of the time police do not get called to go meet great, honest citizens for a cup of tea and some chit chat. Police get called to go deal with the people at the bottom of society who break laws, hurt others, and cause problems. That's who they deal with most of the time.

There is little or no law enforcement to do with those in society who are good, normal, honest people just living their lives.

when a LEO gets to thinking everybody is a scum bag, then they should probably quit what they are doing and get a job where they don't have to deal with people

I however do agree with you here. I have said this several times on this forum. Once a LEO starts treating everybody like a scum bag, it's time to find a new line of work.

i could possible know more then the avg. citizen (remember LEOs are citizens too). you might know that police work is 98% boring work with maybe 2%(or less)of rush. they really don't deal with that many bad people. most of the time they deal with honest citizens, hopefully they don't forget that. i think a lot about, a few of them, have harassed people that carry firearms. it always bothers me when a citizen doing a legal thing, gets harassed.

I still don't understand why you think police "don't deal with many bad people". You really should go on a ride along since you seem to live in a fantasy land in which there is no crime and there are no bad people. Just because you don't see them during your regular day of going to work or being at home doesn't mean police aren't out there dealing with them. In reality if you don't see many bad people out there, the police are doing a good job controlling them.

I think too many people here are trying to apply too many general statements to too many LEO without taking into account the different locations across this country, the different environments, and the different types of LEOs. I can tell you that the LEOs in my little town of Stanwood, WA spend the vast majority of their time watching for school zone violations, chasing teenagers out of the park next door to the high school, and traffic enforcement. That is a vastly different job and job environment than a homicide detective in Chicago, Detroit, or New York City.

I would like to know where you found these stats.

don't be so negative, that is exactly my point is that, 98%of the people that LEOs deal with are honest citizens. it is only the bad ones that people think about or remember. the great majority of LE work is doing paper work or observing, or just being seen in the neighborhood to discourage problems

I would like to know where you found these stats.

that comes from 40 or more years of observing people. if you don't like them, change them. if you can come up with any better, great

i would like to address something else. the myth that LEOs provide to the safety of the public. the supreme court has ruled that LE does not have to protect anyone, and they don't. LE is an arm of the legal system

It is not easy do it for a week and you will never leave home with out your sidearm again lol

the reason it has went into that many pages is because of all the OT that has been posted.
here goes another one.

It depend just where the LEO is as to how much actual crime he is having to deal with. Chris your view point of where the LEO is must be a low crime rate area. In large cities with a ghetto areas with high crime rate the LEO's would spend a much greater deal of time dealing with a much larger percentage of career BG's.
In my home town of less than 4K+ population it's mostly traffic and wrecks. Very low crime rate here, weekend drunks and loud music. But in North Little Rock the police are dealing with murders, car jacking, robberies, home invasions...etc. They're dealing, percentage wise, with a MUCH higher than 2% BG's!

Like gejoslin said, your view of police work must be from a city with no crime.

And what exactly does "40 or more years of observing people" mean?

Ok... please provide cites and/or links to verifiable sources of actual fact that support your statement:

98%of the people that LEOs deal with are honest citizens.

I am most interested in seeing the sources that uphold your number of "98%". And please understand that your 40 years of observing people is a subjective perspective that may, or may not, be supported by actual fact.
