Open Carry on Washington DC (I need your help)

Guys I need a little help, Adam Kokesh plans on marching on Washington DC with loaded rifles, and our Steubenville For Liberty Group has been asked to send letters and support the effort.

I am worried it may cause more harm than good, Wayne and I have be debating the issue.

Our current Congressman Bill Johnson (mule skinner) has fell into the Government Elite status and we hope to have Dr. Donald Allen ( editor of the letter) run against him in the Primaries next election.

Good Idea or Bad Idea?

Your thoughts, Please.

**********

Chuck,

I initially agreed completely with you when I heard his plans and thought, I wish Adam would re-think this as this is over the top. However, I listened to his interview with Alex Jones and came to believe that he is right- at least in principle- that we have so let our rights slip from us that we are conditioned to believe what our enemies say to and about us- that we really are not responsible enough to manage or carry loaded weapons. But consider, Adam was a Marine Sergeant in Iraq and that was a much more dangerous place, and not only Iraq, but Fallujah. He and his team went door to door kicking in peoples front door and evacuating them from their own houses. He managed not to shoot people indiscriminately or to harm with friendly fire any of his comrades just as the vast majority of the fellow soldiers with him.

He stated that the 2,500 men and women who have volunteered to date are also veterans and he will personally inspect and take his group as if he were on any mission. Also, consider, that we trust policemen and national guard personnel to amass regularly with loaded weapons and they manage to behave themselves. Open carry constitutionally has been upheld in all 50 states as dictated by the plain English of the second amendment to the constitution. Should the police in Washington agree to work and have an escort along the route, I see minimum danger and a powerful statement that the law- the constitution applies to ALL citizens of the USA- not just some. We have come to accept this "Pre-Crime" mentality of passing laws which is dead wrong. People should only be punished for committing a crime. I know that sounds like closing the barn door after the fact but really, do you for once think any elected official is in danger in Washington D.C, by allowing respectable law abiding citizens to openly carry?

No, the danger comes from those with bad intent who conceal a gun in their pants and commit crimes regardless of laws. There are tunnels under the grounds between the White House and Congress and all over, no elected official has to walk the streets and in fact, the only politician I have seen walking the streets and pressing flesh have been Ron Paul and Jim Demint. Jim Demint during the Tea Party rally of 2 million back in 2009 and I actually shook his hand.

Much in life is symbolic, and this whole thing is symbolic and I believe we should support the law- the real law which states very plainly: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to bear Arms shall not be infringed" That is why more for concern about Adam and his followers than the officials or the police, I have started a campaign to try and shame the police chief into politely allowing a group to pass through with a sufficient escort to provide them safety because knowing Adam since 2007, and listening to him, he is adamant, but a reasonable and an honorable man. Any threat that exists would come from the police or hecklers and not from them. Sadly, Adam and Jefferson, and Patrick Henry and a host of others like them are right, unless one stands his ground, the line will just keep getting moved further and further until one day, we will be in a corner with one option and that will be surrender. Once again, as Ronald Reagan once said: "If not now, then when? If not us, then whom". Right now while I will not be participating, I will lend Adam and his well regulated militia my prayers and any pressure on public officials I might be able to offer for their safety and the restoration of our republic.

I would urge everyone to send their own- or copy my own letter to the police chief in Washington D.C. and ask her to stand up for the law she plans on violating based on the U.S. Constitution, which clearly states: "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED":

Good Morning Wayne,

Great letter and it proves Dr. Allen would be an improvement over what we have now in Congress with go along to get along Johnson.

On the other hand.

Showing up with a thousand (or even a few hundred) people openly carrying loaded weapons and marching toward the Capitol is not a good idea. There is no one more concerned with our loss of Liberty and preserving the Second Amendment than I.
This will do nothing but fuel the fire for the Communist Left.
Remember we didn't march on the British, they marched on Us.

Donald Allen, our choice for candidate to run against the Mule Skinner did some editing for me, and this will likely be the final draft, feel free to sign mine or pass it along to others we need to deluge this lady with like minded letters, Wayne

Hi Wayne,

I did a quick edit and spellcheck.

Dear Police Chief __________

I saw your statement and You Tube video in the news, and you should be ashamed of yourself, claiming that you will break the law and arrest citizens that enter your town. While I only held the lowly rank of Seaman in the U.S. Coast Guard, I am sure that we both swore an allegiance to the same Constitution, and while I am not claiming sainthood as an individual, I at least know that taking a sacred oath is more than just a pocket full of mumbles to get a job.

One wonders if you are truly a tyrant or just ignorant of the law you claim to uphold? Had you looked into that document that you swore to uphold against all enemies foreign and domestic, you would have noticed that towards the end, there were a series of ten amendments that the writers inserted just to make it plain that man had certain unalienable rights granted by Nature and Nature's God.

While the 9th and 10th Amendments specifically state that the list does not exhaust all rights but for brevity sake, just the most basic were enumerated. But let us take them one at a time. Any 3rd-grade lawyer or judge would know that when stating rights or claims, the first listed are deemed the most important. The 1st Amendment then states that government shall not bully or mandate, nor interfere with a person's divine view of belief in a God or religion, that a man is free to express himself with words spoken or written or otherwise made symbolically to make his case known to others and to further clarify this, that no law or impediment is to be made by Congress (later backed up to apply to all state republican governments) to prevent a person from protesting or "addressing grievances" against that government – this dates back to the Magna Carta.

You are clearly threatening at least two parts of the 1st Amendment in making threats of violence and restraint against Mr. Adam Kokesh and his followers as he has plainly and publicly stated that he has a grievance and not just a light and transient one.

Further, it was written by the Founders after having fought a war against your type of arrogance and tyranny that in order to protect a free society it was necessary for the people to be able to not only arm themselves but to organize community, local and state militias. Further, all that aside, there was to be NO abridgment of the right of the people to bear arms. You are enforcing an unconstitutional law and as our third and fourth Presidents stated, any law passed contravening the Constitution and its protection of citizen rights is null and void and of no force – check the Kentucky (Jefferson) and Virginia (Madison) resolutions of 1798. You are the one breaking the law, not Mr. Kokesh et. al. You should stand down and apologize and to make that apology good, offer a respectful and professional escort to prevent any left wing whacko that might attack them from doing so. Should you do this, I am sure that you will go down in history as a beloved and wise police chief, but also guarantee that no law abiding citizen gets hurt.

We the undersigned do humbly ask you to think about your role as a "peace officer" and do the right thing – not lead us down the road of tyranny where the police are just viewed as the tools of the elite who wish to impose their power over the Liberty of the very people whose government this is: the people who vest you with power and pay your wages

Sincerely,

(You might add this quote:)

This is the second time I have seen this.
I'll tell you what everyone answered--post to this and my feeling also.
-----> INSANE
The first thing that comes to mind: Its set up by anti gunners, who are 'praying' some one will shoots another.
I'm 66 years old, a Veteran, been in every State in America save one, more countries then people have been in States.
In my life, I have heard some wild ideas-------------This is at the top for Ridicules, Dangerous.
I, for one, want nothing to do with this-- This has nothing to do with standing up for our Rights. Infact--this is embarrassing .

I agree, INSANE!
I think this is a lose-lose for gun rights, at best there are no altercations and the anti-gunners are going to point and say look at all those "radical gun owners". The graphic picture of a lot of people carrying loaded rifles could also win them some vots. At worst, with the heated emotions there is a violent altercation. Well we all know what that could cause!

As a low abiding gun owner, this rally scares me!

It is not a lose lose for gun rights...it may very well be a win. Lots of very brave people have engaged in non-violent protests. Gandhi and Martin Luther King violated every law under the sun to make their points. The problem here is that metro police will have to act to enforce their stupid assed laws which the gangsta killers in DC do not obey. Both King and Gandhi paid a very high price for that which they held to be self evident. I wish the marchers Godspeed. Because neither side wants to loose it is difficult to play the game. A non violent Waterloo may be in the making.

That may be true... and then again... it may be the one Martial Law Moment that O'boyimanutjob is waiting for, if shooting breaks out.

In reality the people that run this country would have no problem with forcing the issue by ordering that all guns present be confiscated, and owners arrested in the hopes it would turn to a shooting confrontation. 2 people or 2000 killed, cops or civilian, they don't give a damn, it would merely be the catalyst to overturn the 2A.

This event has a very good chance of going very badly for gun rights. Never loose sight that these ruthless bastards are extremely annoyed by the laws that protect us from them, and if they play their hand right they can do an end run around those laws with the right (or wrong) event.

Ask yourself these questions:
"what will I gain by doing this"
"what could/will I lose by doing this"
"is there something more effective that I could do for my rights"

I share the opinion of most of these posters and say this is an asinine move.

What would I gain by doing this? Absolutely nothing.
What could/will I lose by doing this? One possible loss could be your life if gunfire erupted; if you live, a lengthy prison term; loss of family and home. Need I say more?
Is there something more effective I could do for my rights? Absolutely! Get more involved in organizations that support our Bill of Rights and can have a positive effect on out of control government policies. Speak up when you have the opportunity and dispute misinformation given out by the Liberals. Be an active participant in our governmental processes and ding your representatives every time something radical and against our rights is brought out. Be an absolute pain in the ass until they learn to listen to us and not follow party insanity. And, above all, DO NOT get drawn in to any activities like the march being advocated by Adam Kokesh. Kokesh is narcissistic and interested in only making a name for himself. If he is such a patriot, why did he go on Russian TV? He appears to be more Anarchistic than patriotic.

Now is not the time.

I can see and appreciate the intent and purpose of such a demonstration and appreciate the patriots that are willing to take such a stand and have gratitude for their honor towards the oath they and many others have taken to defend The Constitution of the United States of America. I first took mine in 1969, in Cleveland, Ohio.
BUT, given the current political climate this could really turn into a real blivet (USN term10# of $hit in a 5# ditty bag  ) without anyone even trying to start anything.
Several posters have brought up "the one" incident needed for Obummer to act on his marshall law threat and put us all in the $hitter.
A picture is worth a thousand words and it is my opinion that a picture of these law abiding citizens walking towards the Capital Building would be worth 17 trillion words and none of them would be in our favor.
MSM makes up enough crap about us doing wrong regarding gun ownership without our feeding them ammunition to use against us.
There will come a time when this type of demonstration is necessary and is deemed a last resort, to me that is when we need to make that stand and for it to be in mass and not just on the US Capitol Building but on every Captiol Building in the nation all at once and only when it is time to take back our nation once and for all.

I have not heard anything about this from the lib-o-rat media which tells me that they want this to happen. So I think this is a very bad idea!!!!!!

Just want to add that I will be willing to bet that Obama's radical minions know it is going to happen, and they already have someone who is going to fire the first shot. I don't think the shooter will be in the march, because that would take gonads, and the leftists don't have any, but he will be somewhere along the route, and stationed so he can make a quick getaway. And it could be the second shot heard around the world.

If they are intent on being pawns of this tool and can't think for themselves, all I can say is......

Right Wing Extremist cause death of 72 and 200 injured

BOSTON - National guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently
banned assault weapons were ambushed on April 19th by elements of a
para-military extremist faction. Military and law enforcement sources
estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government
forces were compelled to withdraw.

Speaking after the clash Massachusetts Governor Thomas Gage declared that
the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the
radical right-wing tax protest movement. Gage blamed the extremists for
recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices.

The governor, who described the group's organizers as "criminals," issued an
executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has
interfered with the government's efforts to secure law and order. The
military raid on the extremist arsenal followed wide-spread refusal by the
local citizenry to turn over recently outlawed assault weapons.

Gage issued a ban on military-style assault weapons and ammunition earlier
in the week. This decision followed a meeting in early this month between
government and military leaders at which the governor authorized the
forcible confiscation of illegal arms.

One government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, pointed out
that "none of these people would have been killed had the extremists obeyed
the law and turned over their weapons voluntarily." Government troops
initially succeeded in confiscating a large supply of outlawed weapons and
ammunition.

However, troops attempting to seize arms and ammunition in Lexington met
with resistance from heavily-armed extremists who had been tipped off
regarding the government's plans. During a tense standoff in Lexington's
town park, National Guard Colonel Francis Smith, commander of the
government operation, ordered the armed group to surrender and return to their homes.
The impasse was broken by a single shot, which was reportedly fired by one
of the right-wing extremists.

Eight civilians were killed in the ensuing exchange. Ironically, the local
citizenry blamed government forces rather than the extremists for the
civilian deaths. Before order could be restored, armed citizens from
surrounding areas had descended upon the guard units. Colonel Smith, finding
his forces overmatched by the armed mob, ordered a retreat.
Governor Gage has called upon citizens to support the state/national joint
task force in its effort to restore law and order. The governor also
demanded the surrender of those responsible for planning and leading the
attack against the government troops.

Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, who have been identified as
"ringleaders" of the extremist faction, remain at large.

Why You SHOULD NOT Go

Two good quotes from Freedom Outpost's article (July 4th Armed March On DC – Why You SHOULD NOT Go)

The first quote is very true and proves just how wrong I was to not agree with Wayne and Tumbleweed. We had the opportunity to elect a Republican Nominee that could have saved our Country from the Socialist/Communist Agenda we now face. Never again will I accept the choice of two evils offered by corrupt Party Elites neither Democrats nor Republicans.

1st. quote "Here’s the thing though, for most people that talk a good game about armed marches on DC and how they would use their guns to repel tyranny, most of them can’t bring themselves to vote outside a two party system or they simply vote for the “lesser of two evils.” Friends, stop electing tyrannical representatives and men with no character and we will see peaceful revolution. We’ve been doing it the opposite way for years and we continue down the road of Socialism, not freedom".
"Our Founders protested the right way. Then when the tyrants came for their weapons, they stood their ground and faced their enemies, not peacefully, but with violence!"

The second quote reflects the feeling I have on the issue,
"Our Founders protested the right way. Then when the tyrants came for their weapons, they stood their ground and faced their enemies, not peacefully, but with violence!"

It violates three personal rules I have. Dont do stupid things, with stupid people, at stupid places. We are not there yet.

I'm passing on a few replies from our Steubenville For Liberty Group.

Charlie is a Special Forces retired Sergeant Major and Friend.

I have an intimate and personal understanding of what our freedom costs; for that reason I don't want it squandered on a situation in which we will lose. I have questions about this guy. Who is this guy, what is his agendas, what makes him creditable, who is he associated with, and who vetted him . Actually what I am saying is know who you follow and make sure you are not being used as an unwitting surrogate of those you oppose. In addition, make sure you are willing and able to counter the second, third and forth order effects, such as ; losing popular support, having your goals misrepresented and losing your liberty. Giving your opponent an advantage is not tactically appropriate. The price of not being prudent may be losing the ability to achieve the overall goal and ultimately our freedom all to prove a point. It is by no means a whimpy response to know your opposition. George Washington could have faced the British in a set piece battle. If he would have done that we would still be British subjects : instead he picked those battles he could win.
This really smells of someone subverting the supporters of the second amendment. This has provocator written all over it.

Charlie

I have known of Adam Kokesh for at least 6 years, I have even met him a couple of times, I even donated to his New Mexico U.S. representative (GOP) run in 2010. He was probably an ordinary guy who became disillusioned with the war in Iraq and became politically active after an honoraable discharge from the Marines. He is an Oath keeper, as I am and while pushing the envelope, is hardly a commie plant. He has since his run disavowed the republican party but then, so have a lot of others, although I remain nominally registered as such. Why don't you go to one of his blogs or web site, I think he goes under Adam Vs The Man.

Historically, I doubt that he is any more radical than some of the founding fathers- certainly Sam Adams, Patrick Henry and Francis Marion come to mind. Wayne

His You Tube Channel where you can see what he does, and his ideas,
He admittedly believes like Ghandi in Civil Disobedience as a
form of protest like Rosa parks, etc

One of his heinous "violations"

Once again, as I have repeatedly said, This would not be MY method of protesting- although, I did not get nor did I feel I needed one to protest Fresh Mark hiring Illegal Aliens when there were 11,560 unemployed folk in Columbiana county, either,
