Roughly 80 open carriers marched in Grand Rapids today in support of open carry. The march was inspired by the illegal, brief detention of an open carrier a year ago, as well as the unConstitutional efforts of Mayor George Heartwell to outlaw open carry. No police were present at any time while the carriers gathered, nor were there any calls to report the carriers.

Sounds like a successful demonstration. Congrats to MI OC'ers for activating for a good cause.

Have to ask though, are you OK with this ezkl2230? I just got done reading a post of yours that seemed openly hostile to OC.

HOSTILE to OC? No. It isn't my preferred method of carry, but I fully support those who choose to do so - and I am in regular contact with our legislators in Lansing advocating for ALL of our carry rights.

No problem. I guess I just misunderstood the "Not bloody likely" reference. My bad.

"Roughly" 80 people. wow. :drag:

I don't know....80 people outside in sub-zero weather for a political demonstration of any kind seems like a pretty good turn-out to me. More would be better, but 80 is mo' bettah than 79, or 78 or, well, you know.

The "not bloody likely" reference was in the context of the OP's original question regarding being disarmed while OCing. My remark was that, because I CC, someone finding my firearm and then disarming me is "not bloody likely."

I know ezkl. I got it when you said it. It's where you said it that made it sound like hostility to OC. In the OC forum, in a thread about having a weapon taken while OC'ing, you come in to say that the *reason* it ain't "bloody likely" that your weapon will be taken is because you don't OC. It's not the first time I've seen you *seem* hostile to OC. I take your word for it that it was my misunderstanding, but there's nothing I can do about the way you say things and where you say them that makes it *seem* the way I took it. That's on you, not me.

"Roughly 80 people" is a respectable turn out for any open carry event. Congrats. I have been a member of La Open Carry Awareness League (LOCAL) since 2009 and have been to several formal and informal meetings, gatherings or meetups of open carriers. I doubt I've ever seen a gathering of more than 20 OCers in La. There are times when our monthly meetings only have 2 or 3 people show up. So I applaud your turnout of "Roughly 80 people".
Keep up the good work.

I don't know why Mlive does this, but this is the second time they have cut off about 20-25% of our attendance. There were about 100 people there. I just spoke with another reporter today that confirmed that count.

Unfortunately, another 20-30 at least, were unable to make it due to the weather.

The Supreme Court’s decision is crystal clear: Handguns that are used by people for self-defense and other lawful purposes cannot be banned, to ask permission from a police official or a judge is an unconstitutional whether the state likes it or not. They need to accept the Second Amendment reality and stop this nonsense.”
While many may not like guns and could care less if there were a gun in the world or not, there are many individuals who believe that the God-given right of men to defend themselves against tyranny and slavery are not to be encroached upon by others.

the Constitution states explicitly that searches MUST have the approval of a judge via a warrant, and there must be strong evidence of criminal activity before a judge will sign said warrant, then that's exactly what that noble document means! God-given rights don't protect us from Godless judges, presidents, attorneys general, congress-folk, autocrats in agencies, the IRS agents, or any other rogue agency - and if Attorneys General or judges won't abide by the law, then we are in a state of anarchy!
