open carry laws in colorado

where can a guy get the correct information about where it is legal to openly carry in colorado

Colorado doesn't have open carry laws, in other words there is no law that says you can open carry. There is also no law that saws you can'topen carry except in the Metro Denver area.

With the exception of Denver, Colorado excerises state premption of firearms laws.

Be careful where you open carry... Cities can ban it. Denver does, as Eidolon said, and Castle Rock just repealed their OC ban. I'd check before you OC anywhere, just in case. I actually have yet to see anyone OC-ing outside of specific OC events.

Cities (except Denver) can't ban it that's the whole point of State Preemption. Castle Rock's law only banned OC in city owned buildings and parks not the entire town.

Yes, I apologize, I wrote that in too much of a hurry (taxes are evil but they must be filed). I should have been more clear and said "Cities can ban it in public spaces," which is what I meant--or would have if I hadn't been searching for a power of attorney I needed. Careless of me (lesson learned, no posting in haste). What brought on the overturn of Castle Rock's ban was they attempted to expand it, to include pretty much anything considered "public." I think they were even trying for sidewalks. If that's the attitude of a small city with a lot of gun-friendly people... I'd still be careful and look up city ordinances before OC-ing there.

Interesting and why are they so un willing to either A accept another states CPL or B issue a Non-Resident CPL? Does anyone have an idea? Just curious as I am from Washington and my In-Laws are from Kansas so we have to go through Colorado to get to Kansas.

They accept 31 states... not ideal, but not completely "unwilling." If I'm right, they honor states who honor them (I remember hearing this in class, but don't have time to look up more than concealed carry maps right now, so either someone correct me or I'll try to find it later). They just don't accept any non-resident permits. Kinda hard to complain from WA though... your state only accepts 11 others.

Well 26 states actually accept a Washington Resident Permit and Washington accepts anyone who accepts ours except those who issue them before 21 years of age or don't have sufficient mental health checks with BG check.

Wa is also a Shall issue state with Resident and Non-Resident CPL so if your state does not meet WA requirements you can apply for a Non-Resident Permit. Colorado ONLY issues to Colorado residents. Basically they say I can't conceal carry under any normal circumstances. Seems to me that is an infringement upon my 2nd amendment rights!

Well yes... but you asked why CO doesn't accept more states, not how many other states accept CO. A quick count showed WA accepts 11, regardless of how many states accept WA. Maybe CO doesn't check enough mental history for WA, and therefore CO doesn't accept WA either?

Doesnt it seem rather odd that on the Colorado Bureau of Investigations- Concealed Handgun Permit FAQ - Only -one- question has been asked?
