Open carry in my home

When I'm home I always strap on my S&W MP40, when the pizza kid shows up at my house his eyes go straight to the 40, I could give him a dollar and he would never know. My wife thinks I will get in trouble, but I'm in my home and the gun is holstered. What's your opinion?

I open carry in my house all the time too. I also have quick access to my WASR10 too (if the pizza man is late). Its perfectly legal.

I carry 24/7 when possible to include while inside my house, or outside doing yard work. That said, I would check local laws since you are located in NJ which is its own country not protected by the 2nd amendment. Try the NJ forum maybe?

I agree with Phillip, it's people like you that give gun owners a bad name. Scaring the pizza guy? Seriously? But on the topic, I carry anywhere I go legally. At home I open carry inside and outside.

Not to be repetitive, but I agree with golddigger14s about checking out the law as it applies to New Jersikstan. You may have the legal right to carry openly in your home, but I read an article awhile back that had language stating even if you were in your home and OC'ing legally, if a neighbor or an LEO happened to see you through a window, then there may be a problem. I'm not stating this as fact, and unfortunately I cannot locate the article that I read, but I am saying it just for another item to think of when you do OC in your home. All you need is some reactionist neighbor poking their nose where it does not belong, and you have to go through unnecessary BS. I grew up in Elizabeth and Irvington, so I am not just a New Jersikstan outside hater. My best advice is to take your family and move on to greener pastures. And don't scare the pizza kid, he brings you baked discs of bread with red gravy, cheese, and a variety of other tasty toppings. Treat them well and tip them more than a buck too.

I guess I gave fathers and gun owners everywhere a bad name when my daughter's new boyfriend got wild-eyed at the sight of my gun when I met him the first time. Then my daughter has to go and make it worse by getting me this sweatshirt:

My response.... get over it.

BTW, in Washington law there is a specific exception to the "brandishing" law for in your home/business. You're welcome to display your gun any way you like in your own home or business:

RCW 9.41.270
(1) It shall be unlawful for any person to carry, exhibit, display, or draw any firearm, dagger, sword, knife or other cutting or stabbing instrument, club, or any other weapon apparently capable of producing bodily harm, in a manner, under circumstances, and at a time and place that either manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons.

(a) Any act committed by a person while in his or her place of abode or fixed place of business;

Thats freakin weak.
More than likely, you strap it on just before the pizza guy gets there to impress him or scare him.
Open carry at home? What kind of question is that anyway?

He never said he was scaring or trying to intimidate the pizza boy. He is just saying that the pizza boy is one of the few people that do see his openly carried gun while at home and he cannot help but notice how the pizza boy stares at it.

If he said that he put on his gun only when the pizza boy came over, that would be lame. Reminds me of a pedophile preparing to flash somebody when an unlucky person gets in range.

Don't think dude was bragging, personally I wouldn't want anyone know I'm carrying for the simple reason is, I don't want anyone to know I have guns in my home. The least people know the better. I have a loaded gun upstairs and downstairs then I also have my everyday carry, it's for me to know and for you "NOT" to find out, if you catch my drift.

pizza guy

It sounds to me like the pizza guy is an example. You will need to check your local laws but I see no issue. If everybody insists on focusing on the pizza guy he probably has been brainwashed by the media to think that all guns kill people. Not that they are used in self defense or for defending your families lives. That being said it is good for him to see guns in a family situation and not being used to kill people for murder or theft.

That's pretty harsh. Jump to conclusions much?
And whats wrong with his question? Seems like a perfectly valid one to me.Are you saying he shouldn't carry at home? If so, why not? I do. Most of the people I know who have their permits do as well. Why wouldn't I? I carry to protect myself and my family and that task doesn't stop when I walk in my front door.

THIS ^^^

I doubt he is purposely trying to scare the pizza delivery guy. Likely just stating the facts. This won't change until carry becomes more normalized in this society.

If you are spending your time worrying about what other people might think about you carrying a gun, then you probably would not have started carrying one in the first place. If your right to self-defense is up for debate or subject to the 'feelings' of others, than some introspection is in order.

My answer is you didn't provide enough information to form an opinion. From the little you have writtten, it could be inferred that you are either a law abiding citizen or a complete ass with a gun.

Please answer three questions. Are you aware that pizza delivery is one of the 10 most dangerous jobs in the United States? Is it possible, at least the first time a driver comes to your door, that this person thinks you intend to rob and kill him/her? Are you a decent, law abiding citizen exercising his rights or are you an ass who gets his rocks off scaring people with his gun?

When I see your answers, I will form an opinion and share it as you ask.

I carry wherever I legally can but rarely is it an open carry. I don't answer the door without a weapon concealed under my shirt-tail in an IWB holster. If I ever have need to defend myself the first knowledge that I want my adversary have of my weapon is via his sense of hearing and feeling rather than sight.

As for the pizza boy or anybody else knowing that I have guns, what's the point? I don't know the pizza boy or who he hangs out with or who he might tell that I have guns. Even a harmless looking dweeb has a mouth and might like to brag to somebody about the big gun on his pizza customer's hip. While I keep my guns well secured, the less people who know that I have them, the less likely it is that somebody might try to illegally relieve me of that ownership in one fashion or another.

It seems common sense to me.

Great t shirt , Navy.

My wife jokingly suggests I take a shotgun after our little girl's boyfriends (little girl is five). She also said I may need to get the shotgun to 'protect' ma-in-law's virtue (she's a widow), but that ain't happening, I would gladly GIVE a shotgun to any lecherous old geezer to take her away from my home! :D

Open carry, scare kids

NOT COOL! You may be qualified to ccw, but having common sense with it is not showing.
I carry 24-7, have been for ten years. Only people that know is my wife & the sheriff. Key word in conceal carry is Conceal.

I know where I live in Illinois I can of or CC in my home and on my property. But as for letting people know I'm carrying, on my property, is as simple as this, I don't want to have to kill someone if I don't have to. I am a disabled stay at home father of two year old twin boys. Show the warning so the low brows and knuckle draggers move on to some other neighborhood.
