Open Carry In middle-southern Virginia questions

So after asking a Virginia state trooper in the permit division I fully understand that I do not need any for of permit for open carry even as a non resident of the state. My question is for those who do and have openly carried in Virginia and more so in the mid to the southern area such as Richmond or Roanoake and those areas what has your experience been so far as well as what has the encounters if any with local LEO's been like?

I live on the fringe of Northern Virginia and closely follow the goings-on my state. You will get a host of answers to your questions if you go to opencarry.org; the Virginia forums. Here's a link to get you started.

You should find no problem OC'ing in Virginia as it is the most gun-lenient and gun-friendly state in the South. Enjoy yourself and spend money while here, the assumption being you're from out of state. If you reside in our fine commonwealth, then exercise your freedom to carry as you see fit, legally of course.

I live up in Maryland in Montgomery county I visit the southern area to see my girlfriend. Thank you for the reply and information

Oh boy. Maryland and Montgomery County, eh? Not exactly a gun-friendly environment, that's for sure. What a difference a river makes.... as in night and day. You should seriously consider getting a nonresident carry permit to giver you that extra measure of protection should you find that you want to go somewhere and conceal your firearm.

I plan on getting the nonresident permit for VA, SC, and FL once I am able to afford those permits. mostly because it'll give me carry in most of the US. Now if maryland can hopefully change lol
