Open Carry Etiquette

I think "Open Carry Etiquette" Should be discussed more often.

We had an incident in a theater in Chattanooga, TN where a patron was asked to cover his sidearm after another patron complained to management. The OC patron "REFUSED" to cover stating that his "TN handgun permit allowed him to carry open or concealed." Which is correct. He further stated that there was no sign making Permit Carry illegal.

The police were called and he was then properly advised that he had three choices, conceal his handgun, leave it in the car, just leave the property or if he refused to do any be arrested for trespassing. I don't remember which he did, but now no one can carry there because they now post it, No Handguns.

Why do people feel they need to shove their 2A rights down someone else throat?

Unfortunately, some people use their firearms to make up for *cough* deficiencies in other areas.

You are absolutely correct. if I thought I could stop every criminal out there with my bare hands, then I wouldn't carry a gun. You obviously suffer from the same handicap or you would not need to make up for your *cough* deficiencies either. So take your *cough* comments back to the Brady Brunch where you learned them from.

I am not trying to create a stir here, but if they just put up a sign that says "No Guns", you can still carry in there. It has to be the 30.06 sign that states it is a federal law that you can not carry in there. I don't ever carry open (at least not any more), and I have gone into establishments where they had a sign that said "No Handguns Allowed". I have not lived in TN in the past 5 years, but you might want to check Tn regulations regarding the appropriate signage that is legal. What the manager should have done was just ask the OC to leave. If he refused, then he could be arrested for trespassing.

Wow. You do know that "30.06" is a Texas state law that only applies in Texas, right? 30.06 has nothing at all to do with Federal law.

I was referring to the people that insist on shoving their open carry rights down other people's throats and in the end do more damage for the cause, not to slam for everyone the right to carry.

You can be both a gentleman and a sheepdog at the same time. If you insist on people looking at you and seeing something that's not really there, i.e. manhood by insisting on open carrying a gun into a theater where you know that there has been a tragedy lately, then perhaps you should look toward a better definition of manhood.

I'm sorry if my pithy way of saying it before was misunderstood as sheepish.

More ignorant comments. Why are you so fixated on this "manhood" concept? It's kind of creepy....sounds like a penile fixation to me....

I have no problem concealing if I go somewhere I know people will not accept my openly carried pistol... but it is a rare event because I normally don't leave NE Wyoming, and nobody here has a problem with it. Mostly I won't go into any place where it would even be an issue, of course.

Those of you who live among the ninnies who have been conditioned to scream and faint at the sight of a holstered gun have my deepest sympathies.

Actual open carry etiquette is a whole different thing.

1. Good retention holster and solid belt or other solid rig. Look like you know what the hell you are doing and act like it. Clean, neat appearance otherwise doesn't hurt.
2. Smile and go about your normal business without boosting your crotch or belt, adjusting or touching your gun/holster. If it doesn't fit comfortably, fix that before you carry outside your home. These nervous mannerisms easily make other people nervous, even when/where guns are not a phobic object.
3. Honor private property especially. If asked to leave in any situation because of your gun... do so immediately. Never argue.

Sheepdog just screams ............. WANNABEE to me. As far as the manhood thing, you don't have cow to everyone else to be a man. Maybe you need your testosterone level checked.

Chuckles. Ironically it was checked at my yearly physical and was fine.

Guys, I started a point extremely poorly and then tried to expound on that extremely bad foundation which is further a bad idea and generally lets the discussion immediately descend into ad hominun attacks, as we are witnessing here. I apologize- my orginal point was very badly made and trying to recover from that just made it worse.

Some people have to pick at every thing they can when they do not agree with your post. It wasn't you, it was them.

The discussion did not "immediately descend into ad hominun attacks". The discussion was STARTED with an ad hominun attack made by you:

Yeah right. You do understand that the Brady Campaign and other anti-gun groups spew the exact same propaganda out of their mouths regarding anyone who carries a gun openly or concealed as you concealed carry only people do about open carry? This statement, "Unfortunately, some people use their firearms to make up for *cough* deficiencies in other areas" could very easily appear on the Brady Campaign website about people who carry any gun by any method.

I agree with you. I spoke poorly and made a stupid comment. I apologized for it.
Not sure what else I can do to make it right...

Is that because we do not agree with you? Now you are starting to sound like the liberal left. "Our way or no way!"

It's because you're a closet brady bunch
