Open carry arguments.

As a female, I don't want anyone walking up and overpowering me for my gun. The element of surprise is on my side.

The element of surprise is that feeling your attacker gets when he finds the gun on your corpse. Nobody is so bad ass that somebody can't kill them in a blitz attack from behind. Everyone screws up eventually.

Question... If CC'ing and you are surprised, what's the chance of getting to your weapon before they realize you have it?

Ever since I learned about the Tueller Drill and and saw a video demonstrating what can happen if an attacker is too close, I've been realizing a gun is not always going to be enough. I've got good situational awareness, and learned exactly what to look for after a very interesting class with Marc MacYoung. But... that no matter how good I am at staying aware, what if someone does get too close? I know the basics of handgun retention, and if I'm hanging on to the correct end I'm most likely keeping it.

I also want to start carrying appendix more frequently, even though it's actually more difficult to conceal and not very comfortable, as it seems that would be the easiest way to access it, especially if someone were to grab me from behind. Any ideas on that? And yes, I'm carrying correctly, I'm just bony, with not a lot of space between my ribs and hip bones.

I've got a place were I could take women's self defense from a jiu jitsu standpoint, which would be cool - the coach and I talk guns a lot (my son takes his classes), and Mr. MacYoung also teaches self defense classes near by. Unfortunately, I don't have the means to take those any time soon, not with a young kid around and nobody to watch him. I can't afford the classes and a babysitter.

For martial arts to be effective, you need to be constantly training. Example: I did TKD for 8 years, my brother did too. I picked up Shorin Ryu a few years ago after not training since 2002. My brother trained until 2001, when he went to war, got back in a wheelchair, learned to walk again, then run and then picked up Shorin Ryu 5? 6? years ago. He can match and even beat 3rd and 4th dans like nobody else (he's a 3rd kyu) and I am not even close to my former black belt skill level. He has surpassed his own master in some aspects and will be opening his own dojang next summer while continuing his Shorin Ryu training. That's a distant dream for me. It all comes down to how much you train. Knowledge is useless if you fail to apply it.

And, yes, it's one of the coolest and most rewarding accomplishments any man, woman, boy or girl can pursue.

As I have said before carry method is a choice to that person, I no way buy into "the element of suprize" deal because I believe that the bigger majority of bad guys are more likely to pass by a dude with a gun on his belt than not, and another thing is and this is proven, that with the very rare exception, you can definatly get your gun into action faster if you are open carry, this applys to men and women, but I do have to admit women have a tougher time carrying ether way open or cancealed, they want to look like girls and carrying a gun of any size is tough, many do, but my problem with that is betting your life on a little 22 or 380 that are tough to shoot accurately under controlled conditions then add a mugging, assault, robbery or whatever shooting that little pea shooter in a strait line gets tougher, I'm not saying nobody can, but the bigger the gun the easyer this may be, if you want to try a little experiment and you have a good location like outside with nobody around, set up simple target 15-20 feet away and have your husband/wife start bitching at you while your trying to shoot, and see how difficult this can be, then you may see if you had to deal with a real assault this would be 100 times tougher

As I've stated before, I choose to carry concealed due to my work environment, at work open carry is NOT an option. Since I prefer to keep the muscle memory thing going if the SHTF, I carry the same way most of the time.
That said, I have recently purchases a Blackhawk Serpa to carry. While it is winter here in MI (Even though as I write this it is 60 degrees outside) and I normally have a light coat or long sleeve shirt on, I have been trying out the open carry a bit more. Weapon is in basically the same position, just outside the belt.
I think part of the surprise for a lot of people who CC is for them, not the bad guy. Quite a few of my buddies who CC very rarely practice drawing the weapon, and the last time we were at the range, one of them tore the he** out of his cover shirt when he hung up trying to draw quickly. Now he understands why I have snap caps and practice a couple times a week just clearing the holster and my conceal clothing.
To me it doesn't matter how you carry, even OC, if you don't practice the draw, you may run into a bit of trouble if and when the time comes to get it into service quickly.
This is JMHO.

So how is tricolordad doing since he got banned?

He leaves a lasting impression huh? He's good. Pisses lots of people off, usually his wife. The usual.

In case you're wondering, yes, he acts like a douche in person too but he's funny as **** so it's all good.

Edit...you can find him trolling a few other forums under a few different obvious names if you're up for some name calling.

Nah, I had quite enough of him while he was here (assuming he isn't still here under a different name). I called him a name or two. "Troll" being the only one that was repeated more than once or twice, but even you, his own brother, have called him that, so I fail to understand where the name-calling accusation comes from concerning me specifically. In fact, I just checked, and the last time I even mentioned his user name was in defense of him against another troll who called him a "raghead." You can verify that for yourself here if'n truth means more to you than it ever did to your brother while he was here.

Fact is, out of his 2300+ posts here in somewhere around only a year before his membership privileges were revoked, I only either replied directly to him, or mentioned his name indirectly in my comments, Link Removed, and name-calling was not then, nor has it ever been generally-speaking, a prominent part of my posting style. The vast majority of his time here he was on my "Ignore" list and I rarely viewed his posts. A couple of times I did take him off Ignore long enough to engage him, but he ended up right back on Ignore pretty quickly because I really felt like I was engaging in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. On the other hand, he has called me a Nazi, Hitler-like, a felon and gone on and on in brainless rants about me, so that little quip about me maybe wanting to engage in name-calling after following his trolling ass around on the interwebs is pretty funny. Well, not funny really, more like baiting or trolling on behalf of your brother. Maybe it runs in the family?

Seems like you miss him. Have you ever considered that maybe he just wanted to annoy you and that by responding to him you were already defeated??

ETA: The "blah blah" reply was made apparently while you were editing this into what I was originally replying to:

Defeated? That's hilarious!

Listen up big (or little?) bro, of course I considered that his only intention was to annoy. His intentions were not only foisted on me, who rarely even talked with him or read what he wrote, they were foisted on nearly everyone on an all-too-regular basis. Being purposely annoying is the freakin' definition of being a "troll," which he did so often that he got banned on a board that is just barely moderated at all by an Admin who is extremely tolerant of opposing viewpoints among the readership here. Only the most prolific and egregious violators of the very basic rules of decorum and manners are ever banned here.

He's banned, yet I was defeated by him? His irritating nature is apparently only exceeded by your cognitive dissonance within your family tree. Thanks for the comic relief. At least you're funnier than he was.

I see you've discontinued the practice of sitting in your basement on a laptop next to the dryer thumbing through a thesaurus for the next 15 letter obscure synonym of the word "stupid." I also read your little slapfest with Treo and I see he has stomped up to his room again.

I've been telling you all day that blues is too smart and his opinions are too advanced for you to understand. How can you beat someone who knows everything and is never wrong? Beware his thesaurus. He only uses it when he gets mad.

Obviously I have more self-control than to go to other forums looking for someone to annoy whom I already know I could do simply by signing up under my same user-name. Your brother doesn't have the same self control though. Just got this in a PM:

You're a joke
Got any more V words to pull out of your Vagina before I go?

Is that the troll that you suggested I have been "defeated" by?

Got any more jokes? Besides your brother I mean.

You seem troubled. Take it up with him.

I ignore him, remember? And besides, it was you who said I was defeated by him. You obviously wanted to get something off your chest about how "mistreated" he was around here, alluding to me name-calling and such when what little of that that I did engage in with him paled in comparison to what he pushed my way. I even gave you the search results of only 22 responses either to him or that mentioned him from which you could verify for yourself that he was the flame-thrower and I, for the most part, was polite and responsive to whatever topic we were involved in.

My conscience is clear. I am not troubled at all. I simply asked if you thought that PM was the kind of thing that someone on an internet discussion forum would be "defeated" by, because it was typical of his "participation" here that got him banned the first time, and me being "defeated" by such an insipid troll is not what one might expect to be accused of considering that fact.

Btw, waiting until you think he's gone to say anything about him is straight up cowardice. Be a man.

He was "gone" the second I saw his new user name. I put him on ignore straight away.

Just to be clear, there is nothing that I could either type in here, or refrain from typing in here, that could prove or disprove that I am a man. Pot-shots from the peanut gallery, talking about pulling stuff out of my "vagina" etc., is fairly well indicative of exactly the opposite where your brother is concerned though.

You don't ignore me, you avoid me. You are far from polite. You're one of the biggest retards on this forum and one of the main reasons women don't join. There was a certain female who joined this last summer only to be attacked by you in this post:
http://www.usacarry.com/forums/gene...mo-shortage-what-we-can-do-turn-around-7.html

Because I defended her from a few retards like yourself and you took out your anger at me on her.

Great job making an ass out of yourself. BTW, calling people "vapid" and "unintelligent" and "obtuse" is rude. Finish the sentence homeslice: He who lives in a glass house shouldn't ______.

Edit: You also called me "insipid," which is also rude. You can clearly see where Courtney pointed out your name calling as well. Next time you have a problem with me, man up a bit. K hon?

pulling stuff out of my "vagina"
So he admits the vagina exists. Refusing to deny it is an admission of the aforementioned vagina. I would call it a mangina, but I fear that blues resembles an old lady in his ramblings and mood swings and therefore cannot award the man in place of the V.

I can see why you harrassed him so much. What a douchebag.
