Im all for Open Carry in my state, [Michigan] I dont do it for attention, I do it because its my god given right to protect myself and others with me. I do see where its uncalled for when an LEO stops you for openly carrying a pistol, but when does it just turn into an attention getter? Watch this video, shot in Lansing Michigan. Several guys are just carrying pistols, but if you notice one guy carrying an M-4 no need to be honest, and I wasnt even sure it complied with OC laws in Michigan...No need to carry an m-4 in my opinion. But hey, if its your right, its your right I guess....Just looked like at least 1 was looking for trouble...

M4 might be a liitle much....

I live in an open carry state, and some city's in the state have ordinances prohibiting OC. But out in the rural areas (predominantly) OC is OK, and even respected my most LE, mostly Sheriff. Certainly I'm a huge proponent of OC, CC, and their foundation 2A. But I personally would not go walking around down town with an M4 slung over my back. And quite frankly, I give kudos to LE for inquiring, sorting things out, and letting everyone get on with their day (in this case). I don't expect my opinion to popular with everyone, but I prefer to just CC. It raises less questions, it's less provocative.

Sadly I see this kind of thing daily in my state. For the most part it's not done by New Hampshire natives it's done by this group called the "Free State Project". I would have to say most of the FSP open carry for the "look at me" factor. You see them with Ar.15's world war two long rifles and the list goes on. They claim to be fighting for peoples rights and that's why they do what they do. They use to do some good stuff but this last year they have just gone down hill fast. Now they are mixing open carry in with their 420 pot protests(they all light up a joint at 420 in a public park or other public place). They are also mixing OC with their drinking in public protests. I'm all for OC but when you have douchebags who do things like this or just strap on a firearm for attention I cant stand that!!!

Our state is preemptive and as such only the state can set laws on firearms. Any and all city codes become voided when this law went into effect. So city's and towns have no say as to what places in town you can and cant carry in. Or even if you can carry in town at all.

I saw these "mini movies" about 2 months ago. My first thought was what a bunch of attention Wh???'s.

Another case of the minority making it tougher on the majority. :hang2:

Yes, I know the "have the right"... but come on, why would you really need to carry a AR into a Denny's or Ponderosa.

same reason I carry my gun for self defense. You never know when it will be need if you did know you would only need to carry it then and you would carry the best weapon to handle the situation.

You're right, I never thought of it that way.

"Dammit Rosa, you should have stayed on the back of that bus."

That group on the Video aren't helping Gun owners, they are helping the Anti Gun people.
Do you have any facts to support your statement, or is that just another opinion? And you know what they say about opinions.

The reason some find this offensive; We have been conditioned to accept the restrictions placed on the right and feel that its OK to place the same restrictions on others even when we ourselves hate the restrictions.

Some begin to rationalize which restrictions are maybes? and which ones are NO! In the days of our founders (Yea I know, we're many years past that) It would not be uncommon to see many men gather in a place of food and drink with firearms, both long and short. Why have we as a brotherhood of firearms owners, allowed ourselves to become divided and judgmental about the manner in which others exercise their God given rights? That folks, will be our undoing..

The Looney liberals and gun grabbers are looking for those willing to compromise the right without understanding it fully. To each his/her own...

I had a guy post a link to a gun advocacy group on my Kentucky open carry group, I go to check out his and one of his members posts about smoking a blunt....wtf? Then he posts a positive remark about the comment....wtf? x10

Needless to say, his link was deleted and he was informed not to post any further ones.

Can't fix stupid... They are also the ones the anti-gun Nazi's are looking for to use as examples. :help:

open carry

I'm with GuyNAndover--carrying concealed allows you your rights without provoking those around you. Are we the minority opinion???

Everyone has rights. Sure we have the right to bear arms, but is our right to bear arms more important than the rights of others to eat a peaceful meal at their local Ponderosa? Is it more important than the rights of Ponderosa to try to run a business since customers are leaving because your run-in with the cops seems to be escalating?

I carry a gun every day, and yes, my rights guarantee that I CAN. But my rights to carry aren't more important than the rights of others--who may or may not share my point of view, my sense of comfort around firearms, or the knowledge that I am not bent on harming anyone--so I carry concealed in places where open carry isn't common.

Carrying a gun isn't all about ME. It is about my peace of mind. I carry concealed so that those around me can have the same.

But do you support restrictions on the rights of others to openly carry? Asking not insinuating...

The store owners should have the final say. If they choose to forbid the open carry of firearms that's their choice. If more people did it and more of us were conditioned to see it as normal behavior less emphasis would be placed on the behavior in general...

I'll throw in my .02

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

If you're going to open carry, do it because it works for you. Don't do it to make a statement or simply because it is lawful (hence the M4).

Don't :hang2: yourself and the rest of us with your "statements". The reason we carry is for self defense, not statements.

JMHO, FWIW

It's common sense, that will put a bad image in a lot of peoples minds.

Do you know thew laws here in MI? Do you know any back ground on this event? It was meant as an open carry event and had approval from ponderosa to be there with firearms but ponderosa backed out last minute after they showed up. Nothing they did was illegal.

Why would someone want to carry a long gun? Look back to the heavily armored Bank of America gunners that could have been taken out easier with a long arm.

The state has no idea why we are broke and in debt but this many cops on scene to handle legal gun owners is my money going in the trash. I count at least 8 cops on the first video and 10 in the second.

I was brought up around Guns (I'm 65) and everyone I knew carried a S&W Snub Nose when traveling, So believe me I am in support of people being able to carry a Gun for self defense. If I was in a Restaurant in the USA and someone was allowed to enter with a M4, I personally would fill unsafe and would not take my Family there. OC has a place, that's not the place, not in the USA. I've been eating in Israel and had people walk in with, cut off blue jeans and "T" shirt, while carrying a Machine Gun. This wasn't good on my digestive system, I had no idea whose side they were on. I understand that this is necessary in Israel, but not in the USA, thing are not that bad yet, hopefully it never will be. Antagonizing the Police is not the way to help this cause, The Police that I have been around support Carrying for SD, this will change if the Police don't fell safe. And don't think the Law's won't be changed. Everyone will loose.

That's true in Kansas as far as Concealed Carry.. The law is written so that city's cannot prohibit CC. But they can prohibit OC.

Our state is preemptive and as such only the state can set laws on firearms. Any and all city codes become voided when this law went into effect. So city's and towns have no say as to what places in town you can and cant carry in. Or even if you can carry in town at all.

That's where the whole question gets sticky for me. I wish I was smart enough to give a clear answer. I don't like restrictive laws, and regulation should be used sparingly. Unfortunately (in my humble opinion) these guys with their OC protests tend to draw negative attention. My fear is that they will prompt more restrictive legislation. 2A is like 1A. Do we have a right to be protected from hate speech? Then you have to define hate speech... My mind is way too simple to be able to solve this. But I do think with 1A and 2A, one should exercise their rights responsibly and respectfully. Yet these measures are very subjective. See, it just goes in circles :-). I guess I'm hoping for someone smarter than me to give an answer ahah...
