Open carried for the first time

I too have thought about the gun store/range idea. There is only one here worth while employee wise, but the range can get pretty filled with riff raff at times and a bit uncomfortable....I'd like clean and "upscale" as well.

You are lawyer?!? You don't know the difference between a regulation and a recommendation?!? Oh my gawd! Nobody in that thread was choosing to break a regulation, Mr. Lawyer.

I hope none of your clients read this. That's just incompetence from a lawyer, plain and simple.

Since you claim that it is a regulation, tell us what the penalty is for violating the regulation, Mr. Lawyer.

That's the problem with people like you..... you feel like you must do everything the government tells you to.
I meant "recommendation" brilliant one. Thanks for pointing out essentially a typo. Hooray for you!!! Ahaha. Nowhere else did I claim it was a regulation. In fact prior posts recognized it as a recommendation. Try again with your brilliant cross examination or have we found the limits of your ability?

Can't let it go navy can you. Had to even go to a different thread to spew your righteousness and know it all attitude. Well done.

One thing I'd do at my own range is have lots of rentals WITH an employee that would assist newbies with hands on instruction.

A mistake like that in court could mean the difference between winning and losing a case....

Yeah that just shows how much you know about a real courtroom. What a joke. I've seen experts who are paid thousands an hour and are the most brilliant people in their fields misspeak or make mistakes in reports and I think the majority of educated and reasonable people recognize it happens. A silly message forum is not immune. I think it's funny though how after all of The "recommendation" references I made you thought you were so smart to call me out on that one misplaced reference. It just shows you are grasping at straws to try and make a point. Cheers!

Mojo57, I truly apologize for not being able to read your mind and ascertain what you MEANT to type vice what you DID type.

Lol and this thread has officially spiraled out of control. Hurt feelings from some other thread aside, lets get back to discussing a first open carry experience.

...Or we can keep playing in the "sandbox" as this forum is referred to.

Sometimes it seems gun owners are going to tear themselves apart before the liberals tear us apart.

Yep. :). Open carry is not going to be my thing but since legally I'm permitted to do it I saw no reason not to take advantage of it. Maybe it will be a good way to prepare for conceal carrying in the future? If I can get use to open carrying around my neighborhood maybe conceal carry will be second nature more quickly.

Very reasonable approach. In fact, the uncomfortableness of open carry for you will probably ease the uncomfortableness of concealed carry that most people feel when they first begin, IE: everybody is looking at me and must be able to see my gun!

Please accept this tidbit of information from a person who open carries almost everywhere - try not to get too hung up on concealing the gun so nobody could possibly ever notice it, and try not to get worried about whether people can tell you have a gun or not. In normal, everyday life, 90% of the population never even notices an openly carried handgun, let alone a handgun with a loose shirt over it...or if they do, they certainly show no reaction to it.

I think it's funny to see someone who is so determined to make their gun invisible, they also make it inaccessible for the purposes they would need it for.

Points well taken. I think if it wasnt for a full size bright and shiney stainless steel side arm against my black dress pants my neighbor wouldn't have noticed. Honestly I don't think concealing is going to be an issue because I generally wear a sport coat or suit jacket even in summer.

I have a CCW here in NC. I prefer to OC. Depending on the surroundings I might. CC. Navy is correct about sheeple not seeing the gun. In 2 years of carrying, only a couple of people have said anything. And not a single cop.

I work for a company that provides armed security inside a bank. My company issues huge shiny revolvers and it was two months before one of the tellers realized I had a gun. Same people, 6 days a week, two months...

Thumbs Up

You should have added "and that's why I have to carry a firearm. Haven't you ever heard the saying "first thing we do is kill all the lawyers"?"

How do I give the green "thumbs up" like to this comment? I see the "Like" at the upper right, but how do you tell it which post you want to like? Thanks!

In the actual post you want to give a "thumbs up" to, run your mouse over the post... a blue "LIKE / SHARE" will pop up near the bottom right in the post.... just click on it to like or share.

Mojo, good for you. Some folks don't quite understand how to act on comment boards. I am new to this site and was excited to find it, just roll with it - I know you can, you are an attorney after all.

I have no issue w/ open carry I do take issue when I see a poster who has done nothing but cause contention since his first post, state that they are excited that their neighbors now know they carry.

This attitude plays right into the anti's claim that open carriers do so strictly for intimidation and to impress people.

I don't believe for a second that your OP was intended as sarcasm

Treo, I don't care what you believe. And I'm sure of your 1,600 plus posts the far majority are nothing but antagonistic. Since I'm not in favor of open carrying to begin I'm quite certain I'm not interested in having my nosy bluehaired neighbors in my business or knowing that I carry. If you can't tell that the gist of my post was that "oh great, now the gossiping of the old folks will begin" then your interpretation of my post is seriously lacking. Ever watch Seinfeld and the Del Boca Vista condo episodes?? That's my neighborhood. If so, then you wil under stand my sarcasm. Just as I posted that the residents can complain all day about how short the grass is cut I'm sure they will now talk about this. And a fan of that I am not. Obviously, youre just looking for an attack. I suggest you find a weaker more intellectually challenged target.

While Mojo57 and I obviously started of on opposite sides of the fence, I think his OP here was sincere. I understand what he was saying in it. I would encourage you to stick around Mojo57. For some reason those members who hold to exactly the same priorities that you do have been quiet the last couple of days, but they will come out, I assure you. When they do, you will find others in your camp.

Almost everyone, especially members here, seem to bristle automatically as soon as something is mentioned...for some it's government or government employees, for some it's open carry, for some it's mentioning touching or using a firearm.

Actually, of my 1600+ posts about 700 of them are "liked" so I must not be doing all that bad.

Hmmmmm..... that could be looked at as not quite half bad... or... as a little more than half good.

I'm funnin' ya. :)

Thanks, Navy. Although I think its clear we differ on a lot of view points I think at least we are gaining a healthy respect for each others positions. I have to say, I think my biggest issue with this board is the adjustment that I (myself) needs to make in how to understand it. I'm use to participating on boating message boards and all boaters tend to be alike. We love the water, boats, beer and bikini clad women. Well, kinda kidding. But I think you get my point. Its a very neutral and lack of opinionated dialogue. I for one HATE politics. And this firearm board has a bit of that polarizing mentality to say the least. I just didn't expect it since I thought we would all be technically on the same page but there are obviously deep rooted beliefs out there that are very individualized. Having said that, I'm going to try and do better to not pound my fist in the future. Thanks.
