Open Carried at the supermarket, is that weird?

I always carry herr glock, and I was only wearing a fleece, so I figured I might as well let it hang out there because I probably wasn't going to fool anyone.

Anyways, that's the first time I did that and this was a confession. Idk if I got any weird looks.

I OC'd in the grocery store yesterday also. Nothing weird about it. I also OC'd at a local park and the tire shop.

Pretty normal in my town. It wont even raise any eyebrows. I have seen people open carrying at both grocery stores and walmart here. I have done it a few times myself

If you are OCing, and a BG comes into the place with the intention to shoot up the place, he will at first be concealing and look for any weapons on people. If he is still inclined to shoot up the place, who do you think he will take out first? I do feel that OC has it's place, though.

Here are my thoughts from watching that tape:

Talk about a cold-blooded, fast attack where an innocent was shot without warning! Unbelievable. Situational awareness is really important. Luck doesn’t hurt, either.
Open carry was an advantage in this case because in the video I saw just how fast the GO managed to draw his gun and begin to return fire. You always hear about how open carry is so bad tactically – you’ll be the first one shot, etc. Oh, yeah? The GO had a HUGE gun in plain sight and he was NOT shot. Who got shot first? An unarmed store owner.
I am betting that the BG was on drugs, big time. He was hit with THREE 45-CALIBER BULLETS, with at least two of those hits causing grievous injury, and he continued the fight as if he had not even been hit at all! In fact he was strutting like a peacock who owned the place as he was walking up and down the aisles trying to get to a position where he could shoot the GO. As a gun owner, you need to be prepared for that eventuality and keep shooting the BG in his center of mass until he stops his attack. Don’t think one shot, or even two shots, are going to do it. And a head shot might well be what it takes to stop such an attack quickly.
If you are out of ammunition, a gun does make a great weapon with which to bludgeon someone in hand-to-hand combat.

Once again we have the tired argument that the open carrier will get shot first, even though there has NEVER been a documented case of it happening in real life. It appears to happen only in theory in the minds of the concealed carry only proponents.

I think this statement comes from the same place as the toothfairy and magical unicorns. A lot of people believe it but no one has ever seen it.

If a bad guy walks into a place with the sole intent of shooting up the place he is looking for people, not guns. He will probably start with the people closest to him. It really comes down to luck and how quick you can access your weapon to return fire.

The only thing that causes open carry to be "weird" is the anti-gun propaganda that has been pushed by the media and anti-gun groups and the government since about the 1950's or later. Up until then, it would be considered weird for (and this is going to sound sexist) a man NOT to have a means of self- and family-protection available to him.

I prefer to OC because I hope to foster the opinion that OC is normal and the natural right of an American citizen, and CC feels to me like I'm hiding my gun because I'm hiding it because I'm doing something wrong. And I am an American nationalist, first, last, and always. I'm not in any way apologetic about it. Anyone in the socialistic government, or anywhere else may feel free to KMA.

i have open carry in wal-mart and grocery stores with no trouble but i did have some one complain at my local car dealership but the service manger and owner said don't worry about it.

Not sure what part of WA you are in, but I OC all the time when in civilian clothes. Bank, grocery store, place that cuts my hair, liqour store, just everywhere permited. You should see Starbucks in Lakewood and Federal way when our OC group meets up for coffee and conversation. About 20 people sometimes more. You should go to the 2A rally
at the Capital in Olympia on the 30th of April at 10 am. There will be speakers and various organizations with display and a wealth of information.

As to all the other replies and such, I appreciate the opinions and support. It is just that I am new at OC'ing that I feel a little awkward and I did feel the same as when I was concealing. Might as well just get over it or I'm going to be the guy wearing a jacket on too hot days.

I live on the tiny island of Guam,I have a license to carry in a non concealed status,and my fiancée and I went to a local supermarket with me OC. She said I got a couple of looks but other than that nobody was bothered.Except for the rent a cop pulling security there,young guy was pretty nervous.

trouble in paradise

OC is legal here in CT, or rather it isn't illegal. Legal doesn't necessarily mean intelligent. There have been several recent arrests for brandishing, menacing, and/or disturbing the peace where a guy OCing is hassled and either arrested or ticketed, and firearm confiscated. All blatantly in vioation of state law, not to mention 2A, and they all get dropped eventually. However it takes only one such incident to have a pistol permit revoked, and usually a year or more to have it reinstated, let alone recover your pistol from the local PD. Plus thousands in legal fees. The AG has issued instructions to police forces around the state informing them of the law, but the deference always seems to be in favor of the "ordinary citizens" who are afraid when they see your gun.

Standing up for what you believe in is most definitely a sign of character. I truly respect those willing to do so, who will eventually win this right for all of us. On the other hand, I know the great likelihood is that i would be arrested, and spending a bunch of money to defend something that was avoidable is irresponsible in the context of my family obligations. Hate to say it, but i have to let others fight this battle. I will continue to conceal.
