Online Buying of 9 MM Ammo and mailing to Rochester NY Area

I have been having great difficulty finding Winchester Supreme Elite Bonded PDX1 9mm 147 Gr JHP personal protection ammo. About every three months I can find a box or two at Gander Mountain.

I see that some of the large online sites (like Gander and Cabela's) has this particular brand and caliber available.

Is it legal to buy and transport ammo to the NY Rochester area from out of state? I thought handgun ammo was always behind the counter and was dispensed only to CCW holders.

I am currently a 20 year unrestricted CCW resident and have never had any legal incidents. What do you guys or gals think is the law in NY on this. The Gander site says for some states, to check their state laws, but I can't find anything on this topic. Thanks for any help.

Just call Cabelas and ask if they ship to your home in NY state. I have bought ammo from Cabelas and had it shipped to my home in Ohio many times.

I did call Gander and they told me they won't ship to NY . Too much of a hassle. There are a few states that give them problems. I'll try any of the sites that get posted here.

ammoman.com.

Legal to buy ammo on line in NY state. No ccw required to buy ammo. Sometimes it is store policy, but not legal requirement.

My local shop says this about shipping ammo to NY.

"No Ammunition Sales To: New York City & Surrounding Boroughs- Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island"

Home

That may well be true of NYC and the 5 boroughs. The rest of the state is no problem. NYC is an animal all its own and not related to NY state for all sane purposes.

It is quite possible that the issue revolves around the collection of NY Sales Tax on internet sales.
Since Gander has stores in NY they are required to collect and pay to NY in Albany. Imagine the hassle of having to collect sales tax as the rates differ by county and then pay it back to all 50 states.
Some day some where someone will wise up and create a tax free state.
This state will say come and set up you warehouse in my state. I won't require sales tax on online sales. And if any other state demands it we will tell them to stick it and use everything in our power to protect our
businesses.
There would be a boom like never before ( in that lucky state )
