One handgun your whole life?

Just wondering if anyone has ever simply bought just one handgun and used it their whole life (say for many years)? I'm talking someone who shoots not just has a handgun stored away in the attic in a box. Range, home defense, carry? I knew an older guy who had a .32 acp which was his only gun and he said it was all the gun he needed. I asked him if he ever thinks of buying a nice 9mm or something else. He just says, why should I, this gun will protect me.

Myself I had about 6 handguns, then sold them all years ago. Since then I have now purchased five more, but sold one again. So I now have four, planning on selling another, but will keep the other three for a long time. I guess I could own just one, but since I have a CCW Permit I like having a few choices for carry.

Your thoughts?

I have 6 different ranging from .22 to .45 and I like them all. I could get by with only two, one for summer carry and one for winter, but enjoy going to the range with all of them. I will sell one to buy another from time to time.

Not sure you'll find many here that own only one gun.
Maybe the question would be better asked, "If you could only have one gun, what would it be."
Personally, from a survival standpoint, I would choose a 9mm. pistol & a 22lr rifle. Both are
reliable, ammo would be plentiful & cheap.
From another standpoint, if I could only own one gun ever, I would choose a 1911. Reliable,
there's millions of them out there.

I have more than one, but tend to not sell them off. I have had my 1911 for over 40 years (currently still my daily carry), have two other handguns that were my great-grandfathers and handed down thru the family.
Same with my long guns, the rifle I hunt deer with was the one my father used as well over 50 years ago (I did upgrade the scope).

Fortunate in having a great wife who agrees with my holding onto these types of things.

(Hell, I've had the same pickup truck for 25 years now)

I like it!!! Just one question, are you a pack rat? I tend to hang on to things too. I have had the same truck for 14 years, I have two shotguns, a .22 rifle that were my fathers. A .357 and .22 Ruger that I bought 30 years ago. A Glock 23 Gen 4 and a Kahr CW40. I do not plan on selling or trading any of them.

i bought one gun for home defense had it for long time at home under the bed in a shoebox ...before i decided to start carrying it
hoping still to win the giveaway then i'll have two ..the one in the giveaway would be much better easier too to carry imo but i don't think i'll buy another one for myself any time soon ......i'm saving to remodel my bathroom it needs a total overhaul thankfully i have another bathroom i can use for now

I only have one for now which is a XDM .45 4.5 this is my home defense but now I toying with a smaller 9mm. I went today and shot the Glock 19 and the XD9 in the compact so I might have another one before long.

I have owned a Model 19 S&W since 1985... Many pistols have passed through my hands and I have carried every thing from a snubnose to a 1911. Currently my EDC is a S&W 645. Not that it would ever happen but if I had to drop to one pistol it would be my Model 19. It has always been dependable and will shoot 38's or 357's without remorse. I'd miss my other pistols but my ole S&W 19 can and will hold it's own.

I was think the same thing Blackthorn, my S&W Model 19 was my first handgun and I think I'm taking it with me when I leave. I hope God does not have a no gun policy.

Not a pack rat, just hold onto things I like. Weapons, tools and vehicles are some of the things I purchase quality and hold onto them.

I'm sure God would let you... I imagine him a purveyor of fine firearms... They are works of art.

I don't really believe a house gun is needed. Many people have one, but IMO any gun you carry should also work fine in your home. Either way, as long as you have a gun which shoots well and you are comfortable with it you are good to go.
People usually own more than one gun now-a-days, but many old-timers can tell you that they just have one favorite gun they own. I guess I could get by with just one handgun, but making the choice for just one is really tough with so many good handguns available now.

I've never owned more than one at a time. I had a .357, that I did not carry, for over 8 years before selling it. I have since bought an LC9 and it's the only gun I have. I'm not saying I will never buy another but I am satisfied having just it.

Hell if your like me, I have shoes older than my children and there all married and gone.

Basically if it came down to only one gun –I.E.- pistol/handgun, it would be the trusty 1911 in 45 cal, even though they don’t have the amount ammo in each Mag like the Glock, the sheer number of them being around should give you cause to pick the 1911, simple to break down and clean and a large number of spare parts available.
