April 10: Muskogee Police Capt. Scott Shields escorts medics as they load an injured man into an ambulance in Muskogee, Okla.

Police are looking for two suspects after a fatal shooting Saturday at a shopping mall in Oklahoma, The Muskogee Phoenix reported.

An 18-year-old man was killed and five injured in the incident at the Arrowhead Mall in Muskogee.

The shootings are believed to be gang related, Fox News Channel said.

Muskogee County Emergency Medical Service was called at 4:24 p.m. after reports of multiple gunshots.

Police believe the shots were a result of a gunfight at the mall, Muskogee police chief Rex Eskridge said.

Four of the injured victims were taken to area hospitals, while one with minor injuries declined treatment.

One victim was taken by helicopter to nearby Tulsa for treatment.

After the shots were heard, witnesses said a loud speaker announcement told shoppers to leave the mail as soon as possible, according to KTUL News.

Police evacuated the mall and had the facility in lock-down.

Most of the malls around here are not gun free zones. There is one one in Grapevine between Fort Worth and Dallas, Grapevine Mills Mall, that is so I do not ever go there and I advise everyone I know to boycott it. There are plenty of places for me to shop with out going to a "Killing Zone".

I am unsure where you got the idea that these punk gang members had CCW's. As far as I know, the punks are still on the run and the police dont even have their names. Soooo, I am going to assume they were not legally carrying a concealed weapon. Furthermore, lawbiding citizens who have their CCW's should carry for the sole purpose of self defense, this is nothing more than PROOF that we need to carry any and everywhere. Which is why I simply do not go to resturants, or stores that dont allow me to protect myself. I could go, and never pull out the weapon, but I would know inside me, where it counts that I am breaking the law. No way, so, if they are so liberal, that they post no guns signs, then they are setting themselves up for criminals to attack, and I say go criminals go, that is the safest place to rob, mug, rape, steal, kill, beat up, you name it, it is all good. just make sure there is a no gun sign on the door. that is all I ask, then I will never have to shoot one of them bastards.

The mayor of Muskogee says it's time for residents to come back to the mall.

Six people have been arrested in connection with the Arrowhead Mall Shooting.

District Attorney Larry Moore tells The News On 6 formal charges for all six suspects could come on Wednesday.

I wont carry into a government building, bank, or someplace like that, but as far as I know there is nothing about those signs that make it illegal for me to carry there. The owners might sue me if I save my families lives or my own, but to the best of my knowledge those signs dont dictate law.

Scenario time: you make the decision to advance on the threat. The cops are responding to a call of shots fired. Cops see a civilian with a gun out and yell at you to freeze, you turn around to explain yourself and are shot by the police and/or tangos.

Not for me. Ill headed outta there with my weapon ready but concealed. :biggrin:

Well, if I hear gun shots, I would NOT go and investigate, I will duck and look for cover, I will protect my wife, and if I deem it is safe to leave the building, I will. but there could be people outside wiating to gun down fleeing people. Now, put me in the immediate vincinity of the shooters. say I was coming out of a store, and SEE and HEAR shots being fired just feet or yards in front of me, I would be fearing for my life, I am going to dive for cover, pull my CCW which I legally carry and then I would shoot, with deadly accuracy,until the threat is eliminated. I WANT EVERY ONE WHO READS THIS TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND that I am NOT a cop, i'm not charged with protecting the "Public". The hell with the public in a situation like this. By law, under OK's SDA Act, I can ONLY protect myself, my wife, my kids, and even my boss, and thats it, PERIOD, END OF SENTENCE AND STATEMENT. I dont want to be a superman or super hero. As far as me being shot when the cops arrive, I am sure they would not arrive that quickly, had they done so, the punks would not have been at large for over 48 hours. My weapon would be reholstered. But lets say there was a cop in the mall, the punks in this case were young blacks, never heard that on the radio did you? even when they were asking the public for help, they never gave the biggest description, BLACK. I have that brain set. One last word, I am in Tulsa and I listen to the local radio stations, the chief of police said that the general public should not be worried, because this was a planned attack with planned targets and not a random shooting. Well that gives me a fuzzy warm feeling. The truth is, as I see it, planned or not, bullets richoet, bullets miss their mark, punks take innocent hostages, Innocents people can run right into the line of fire, even the police sometimes shoot innocent people while aiming at moving bad targets, lord help you if you are 200 feet beind the bad guy and in line with the speeding bullet. So I respectfully disagree with the threat assessment. I would feel safer in a mall, if EVERYONE had a CCW and was packing. ok, enough of this, must get back to work. You see, I am a tax payer too. So long as my family is accounted for, Im fairly certain that I would leave as directed. I am not a police officer and going to jail or dying for making some stupid mistake while defending other people would irreparably damage my relationship with my 3 daughters and leave them with no income to pay the mortgage.

Actually, that's not entirely true. Per the Oklahoma Self Defense Act:

TITLE 21 § 1289.25. Physical or deadly force against intruder

D. A person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity and who is attacked in any other place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force, if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.

So you would be legal if you engaged the perps even if they weren't actually threatening you. Whether that would be prudent or not would depend on the situation. My first instinct, especially if my wife and kids were there, would be to E&E and get out of the mall quickly.

Arkansas law reads the same way. I'd only move towards the gunfire if my family were not w/me. Otherwise, I'd likely retreat as directed. Securing my family is the most important thing.
